Question Mystery plastic gear fell out while driving, what functionality did my car just lose?

I was just driving and felt something drop on my left foot. This little heavily-greased plastic gear just fell from maybe somewhere near the OBD2 port.

I know it's a long shot but does anyone have any thoughts where it goes? (USB adaptor for scale)

Does your vehicle come equipped with the storage bin below the light switch? The part you found may be part of the dampening mechanism for the storage bin when opening/closing.

See pic below for the possible location for the part you found. Note I found this pic on the internet while searching part#51456998229.

Wow amazing! I think you’re right. Now to figure out how I can pull it out to reinsert it. That’s a huge help — thank you very much for taking the time to find and post that!

You’re the man larrylam. Thank you so much. If I didn’t feel that bit fall out I’m sure it would’ve gotten thrown away and then the drawer wouldn’t started acted up. I do use it a lot. Thank again for taking the time to pull that up. I don’t know myself yet where to find those kinds of instructions.
