OTA updates for the masses?
First of all, I'm not sure where to put this, so if a mod thinks there's a better place, please move it.
Today, I was saw an announcement related to OTA updates being rolled out in large scale, so it seems the moment we've been waiting for is finally coming. The announcement was made by the Norwegian BMW office, but they speak about "large scale" roll out, which almost never means Norway-only, since nothing here happens at a large scale. They indicate that OTA updates require Live Cockpit Professional, iDrive 7, and it applies to the following models starting from 2018: BMW 1-serie BMW 2-serie Gran Coupé BMW 3-serie BMW 7-serie BMW 8-serie BMW X5 BMW X6 BMW X7 BMW Z4 BMW 5-serie: produced from July 2020 BMW X3/X4: produced from July 2021 Have you guys seen a similar announcement in your local markets? Here it's the article translated to English.

Nothing similar in Portuguese car news websites. Last update I received was 11/2019, 03/2020 is still rolling out, as soon as I hear 07/2020 with android auto is coming out I'm heading to the dealer

If you are talking about the OTA updates that started to happen for most people back in May 2020, then yeah it is pretty nice! (Sweden here)
Still waiting for that July Android update! |

I haven't heard of anybody getting the 3/2020 update via OTA, so as an educated guess the 7/2020 update will also take a couple of months to show up

From what I've seen, there wasn't much change with 03.2020. And the last Connected Drive app update fixed a few niggles like remote view for me. I'm presuming BMW have been putting all the resources into the July 2020 update which brings a few new features rather than purely bug fixes. That's how I read it anyway. New cars built now will have it and other cars will have OTA updates sent in July and August. There's another article on it here: https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/t...oftware-update

I think they've added hardware that enables certain features such as the iPhone key from July onwards. For example high beam assist will also be added to connected drive store for download but only cars from July will be able to have it because they come with a blank button that can be programmed for it.
I had expected BMW to work out some way of enabling it for pre July cars but apparently not. I can easily see this being the way forward. Plenty of spare buttons that can be programmed for software additions. Hmmm.

They're not, or they would have already said it. They've been pretty clear that it's only for cars built from July 2020 onwards, even if our ads already have the NFC digital key capability. It's a joke.

It made no sense why it worked with Android and not Apple at launch so why would BMW not allow the millions of Apple users to have the function now if it was available?
