M340i x-drive economy?

Hi folks,

I had a test drive in a M340i x-drive & was very impressed with the car. I drive a M4 Comp just now & the M340i felt as quick if not so raw. I'm seriously tempted. It might be time to change for more comfort, tech & Xdrive

I watched a review which claimed 39mpg on the motorway. I keen to hear what economy M340i xDrive drivers are getting?

Thanks folks

My average across 5 tanks has been 31.8 mpg. This has been achieved through a mix of city driving and motorways.

Much better economy is achieved on longer journeys where the car regularly will achieve 36 - 38 mpg cruising, possibly more. However, shorter journeys especially in town will see low to mid 20’s.

Overall, it is a fantastic car and is very quick, but great for the daily commute.

Three weeks of ownership tomorrow, currently running at 32.7mpg.

Higher figures easily achievable over long distance runs, the above is simply based on my daily commute. 50 mile round trip, mixture of dual and single carriageway and about 30 mins of stop/start traffic.

I believe it's first class all round given this, but as previous post says, almost as quick as previous M3/M4 when needed.

I’m currently getting 31.5mpg from my M340i. Mixture of motorway, country roads and conjested city/urban driving.

Pretty impressed actually as l managed an average of about 40mpg doing the same driving in my F30 335d over 65k miles and the M340i is still running in.

Just a fantastic car all round, absolutely delighted with it.

Great consistency between us - a range of 31.5 - 32.7. My average has now improved to 32.0 (actual - the OBC is optimistic by 1%).

MGooda I'm guessing that as you've had the car for three weeks, you're still running it in. My worst tank was 29.6 mpg just after I'd finished running in the car ..... you can guess why

I've seen several people (particularly non owners) who are quick to say it's not an M3 / M4 etc and i would agree, but that is what makes the car so brilliant. It has most of the performance of the F80/2 but is equally at home on the commute or as a long distance cruiser. The ability to switch between Adaptive and Sports modes means that you have two cars in one package.

Anyone seen another M340i on the road yet other than their own? I haven’t.

The only other M340i I've seen was on the day I collected the car! Having driven the 50 miles home, I took the car out in the afternoon and there was a black M340i in the lane next to me.

I am getting 25 mpg consistently, all urban driving. On the motorway its easy to hit 35+ mpg.

Just drove around 100 miles, mostly motorway with a bit of traffic... managed 41 MPG! It's incredible considering the power the car has. I just put it in ECO PRO and let the driving assistant do 90% of the driving.

Thought I would share these pictures. First long run in the car yesterday following a fill up, and I struggled when I took a look at this first thing this morning given the performance of this car. Was still 82 miles remaining on the OBC

I've got a new MHT M340i Touring. First time its been on a commute was this morning, 55 miles of the M1 at a steady 70mph.

In Eco Pro model all the way and without using Cruise Control the MPG readout was 39Mpg. Pretty amazing really

Stop messing about and run it in properly. Max 4.5k RPM, light on the throttle. Talk to us about mpg when you have a few K on the clock.

Your car needs to work up to max running-in RPM, through the gears, until you reach 1300 miles.

Had my m340i now for 1.5 years. I do mostly urban driving about 80% of the time and I get about 370ish for a full tank. When I do road trips I get 39-41 mpg in eco, the fuel range got up to 490 miles.

Over 23,000 miles I’ve averaged 35.8mpg as measured by Fuelly App not car (which indicates 36.1)
50.4MPG is my best on a single trip from Home to Heathrow 87 mile trip.

blasting around windy hilly roads averaging over 60mph over 3 hrs - just under 30mpg

driving like a maniac in sport plus over hills and windy bits and all, with 0-100 launches (just gassing the car, no brake hold) every 5 mins - 18 mpg

that said - i don't believe the car's econometer. there was a thread in the past where everyone had real consumption calculated from refilling, that is about 10% higher than what the car is saying.

so taking 10% off that gives around 26mpg, and 16 mpg

I had a goodish drive on cross country A & B roads today, to the in laws & then back (inc a fuel stop and slightly different route)....

55 miles @ 3.9 gal/100 mi = 25.6 mpg
22 miles @ 5 gal/ 100 mi = 20 mpg
34 miles @ 3.7 gal/ 100 mi = 27.0 mpg

That was according to Trips on the MyBMW app.

However on iDrive, it is showing 28.8 mpg for the 3 journeys, and 31.5mpg for the last 34 miles post refuelling.

Most of the time was in Sport Individual using the paddles.

500 miles per tank is readily possible if you do motorway for the majority of it. My average over 14k miles is 35mpg. Pretty amazing really.

I'm getting about the same as everyone else here, got 44mpg trundling down the motorway with 40mpg not too difficult to get sat at 70ish, can still get it in the teens when pushing on.

The B58 is a remarkable engine as in other performance petrols I've owned 40mpg was a pipe dream. Had to be reasonably careful in the 335D to get over 40mpg.

I would be interested to see how it compares to a Merc C43 or RS4.

Some of you guys are getting far better mpg than me, and I think I drive mine really sensibly. My average after 15,650 miles is 26.5mpg, measured myself, tank brim to brim. However, in my defence, I live at the top of a hill and wherever I set off to I immediately drop 460 feet, which has to be regained when I return. There are hills in all directions here in Yorkshire. My drive to work is up 125ft then descend 590ft, distance 4 miles - I get about 28mpg. The same journey in reverse I get about 16mpg ! Last weekend I drove 40 miles from Bingley to York which is about as flat a journey as I can find and I made 42mpg on the computer which I was delighted with. My best ever full tankful was 40.6mpg over 443 miles driving to and around Norfolk. This car is only 0.5mpg thirstier than my previous 440i.

I'm not unhappy with that, but I can't imagine getting anywhere near 50, living where I do. I'm looking forward to comparing my forthcoming M340i Touring LCI with MHT. Graph shows tank-to-tank full.

I'm similar to you B6WAF. I live in a reasonably hilly part of S Devon and it's very difficult to get over 30s on local runs. A bit longer, when I get on the dual carriageway 35+ is easy, and 37/38 is easy on the motorway.
