Sport steering wheel in MY2020 330i different from MY2019?
I test drove a 2020 330i x drive (non m sport package) which had the m sport steering wheel and sport seats. When I try to configure this car online it doesn't seem to allow it. I am attaching the window sticker. Anyone have any insight about what is the story with the m sport wheel on a non m-sport package car? My dealer says " standard parts were not available and the early production cars used these parts". And also "let's take advantage of this".

A couple of years ago there was a shortage of MSport steering wheels. Even some folks ordering MSport packages were getting regular steering wheels.
It didn't use to be an option to order the MSport steering wheel. I always suspected it was BMW's way of getting us to order the entire package. I don't know if you can now order one separately. But...from my perspective, the MSport steering wheel is the best part of the MSport package. I really like my steering wheel and it is one of the parts of the car that you interact with continuously. |

The explanation your dealer gave is entirely plausible. BMW always reserves the right to change equipment at any time without notice. All G20s come with sport seats.

I would be mad if I ordered an M Sport Package or M340 and my steering wheel was not M Sport..really FAT padded leather wheels are one of my favorite parts of a bmw and driving it makes a huge difference from the regular wheels

Either a mistake at the factory or your dealer is correct.

Is there really that big of a difference on the G20? It looks like it's just the bottom spoke vs having two spikes on the regular steering wheel. There was more of a difference on the F30.

M Sport wheel is thicker. It's nicer in my opinion.

My neck hurts from turning it sideways to read the sticker.

I noticed the same thing today at my local BMW dealer. The salesman did not know why the M sport wheel was included at no extra charge. He said he was going to try and figure it out, and get back to me. I also prefer the thicker wheel.

There are multiple factories producing the 3-Series. It could be that one of the local suppliers for a given plant was unable to fulfill the order for steering wheels.

they literally look pretty much the same - a wee bit thicker, a badge and slightly larger thumb grips. They don't stand out like they should IMO.
Never understood why BMW haven't gone for flat bottomed wheels for example. |

The flat bottom steering wheel may look interesting or cool, but in my experience with daily driving my S4, I do NOT like flat bottom steering wheels. They feel very awkward in daily driven non race cars, because we have to make maneuvers that require over 360 degree rotation of the wheel. The flat spot feels very odd and disconnected. In race cars where some turns may require 180 degrees of movement, the drivers still keep their hands at the proper position. That is not the case for we everyday drivers. I'm glad to see that BMW has not jumped onto that pointless bandwagon of flat bottom steering wheels. Sure, you can get used to a flat bottom steering wheel, but it still never feels right. I can get used to having a permanent limp, but it still won't feel right. Only 20 more months until my Audi lease is up! Yeah! |

My last 3 cars have had it and I guess I’m just used to it. When you are lanky like me it also gives an extra half inch of legroom 😂
Maybe it’s just a marmite thing |

I loved the flat bottom in my previous 2019 S4 and S5. It gave me a better sense of where the wheel was pointing when in my hands...I could use the little notches as reference points as it slid through my hand while in rotation. Although I like the thickness of the M wheel better.

I've noticed that a flat-bottom steering wheel's main advantage is freeing up leg room as well.

Audi's ergonomics are odd to me compared to BMW. My 2006 A4 had much better driver ergos compared to my S4. Audi has cool and good style, but BMW has better functionality. BMW simply makes a better "driver's car", and Audi's tend to look better. As I stated, only 20 more months until my Audi lease is up. |

In other countries around the world it's possible to order the M Sport steering wheel separately.
This may have been an error potentially if an early launch car for your countries spec and it slipped through as being available. HTH |
