Sick mustang. Here's hoping the 15% not carried over is the grill. Might even be true since the grill really does cover 15% of the car.

I'd love this but with a more traditional grill and some bumper between the grills and lower intake. The 8 series grills would look fantastic here. Leave those side intakes alone though as they look aggressive and I like them. Just my 2 cents.

Guys, you do realize that this was just some 3rd party graphic designer on the internet making a 3D model of the 4 Series Concept car to sell for $75 a pop? It's intended to be identical to the red concept car we've already seen in the photos and any differences are just down to cutting corners on the model.
Look closely at the URL where these images came from. It clearly says "bmw-concept-4" It's still very unclear why SCOTT26 implied that this new render had anything to do with the production car - other than eye candy to draw attention to his "85% similar" claim. I don't have photoshop, so some quick (and terrible) paint work. But overall here's how I think it could let better while catching up to the large grill trend.
There of course would be the bumper support cover under there, but I don't have the skills to move and try that. Also, I think bringing the top of t he grill down a little might help, but that's out of reach for my skill level. What did I butcher from this original interpretation? Larger headlights, taller grill, smaller bumper openings. This keeps the traditional BMW bottom bumper shape, with more realistic sized bumper openings and headlights. It does not bring the odd bottom lip in from the concept (what kills the concept for me in images) |

I actually like that more than the Concept 4. They are better integrated with the lines of the car, not stuck on the front like a Charlie Chaplin mustache. |

Not true at all. Designers are in the business of creation. The risks they take are ingrained into the process of creating something new. I'm sure people in the 50s and 60s thought their cars were beautiful with massive fender bulges, fake fins, garangutan proportions and ridiculous ornamentation. If, back then, they had a glimpse at the modern car, they'd probably criticize it on the basis of modern cars looking like bland, space age appliances. We look back at 50s and 60s cars, and appreciate them in their historical context. But they are not acceptable cars by modern standards, with their general levels of flamboyance, overdoneness and excess. This is an extreme example of how design preferences and trends tend to shift, but it all boils down to the fact that progress in design necessitates new ideas and change that may or may not be accepted initially. The 4 Series concept is a sure step forward. It has beautiful surface changes, excellent stance and proportions, and frankly makes the F80s look incredibly dated. I can understand the distaste for the grille but to me it's a bold step forward, done pretty tastefully and ties very well into the overall theme of the front end. With the leaked G series pictures, I don't feel the same way, but I won't judge until we see the final product.

The more I look at this, it reminds me of the 3.0 CSL Hommage concept car released few years ago.
If the new incoming 4 series is anything close to that concept car, I'm in and maybe there's still hope! |
