I thought this was going to be like the noise test that SAAB used to do where they actually hit a simulated moose and to prove that it doesn’t go through the windscreen and injure the passengers

very strange. same site, pre LCi 4 cylinder 3 = one of the best performing, like a go kart. this one just understeers worse than a Audi 6.

M340d seems to be with 250kg heavier (560lbs) then a 330i xDrive and I think the weight balance is a bit more towards the front due to engine weight.
Since you mentioned A6, that M340d xDrive touring in the test is almost the same weight as the petrol A6; both being ~2t in measured weight (with options and fluids and what not).

That's not surprising to me as the nose of the 4-cylinder cars is significantly lighter and they are more agile directionally as a result. As another poster has observed, that 6-cylinder diesel is the most nose-heavy of the G21s and you'd expect it to be the least agile performer. I'd bet a 330i MSport G21 would be the best option (and a G20 better still as it's a bit lighter again)

That would mean that all six-cylinder BMW station wagons are this bad. Could it be caused by the 48V battery adding extra weight to the front of the car?

It's a small, light Li-Ion battery. The cars did get heavier with the MHEV system; though weight distribution is pretty much 50/50.

Below BMW DIN figures:
G21 330d: 1,715 kg (pre-LCI 195 kW)
G21 330d: 1,770 kg (pre-LCI 210 kW MHEV)
G21 330d: 1,770 kg (LCI 210 kW MHEV)
G21 M340xd: 1,880 kg (pre-LCI 250 kW MHEV)
G21 M340xi: 1,770 kg (pre-LCI 274 kW)
G21 M340xi: 1,805 kg (LCI 274 kW MHEV)

Before buying the D3 S, I've written down stats from Auto Motor und Sport of various F3x, G2x, G3x iterations.

They include a full tank of fuel and the cars are usually pretty much loaded.

E90 335i: 1,617 kg (LCI 6MT Performance)

F30 335iA: 1,618 kg 51.3/48.7%
F30 335xiA: 1,687 kg 52.2/48.8%
F30 340iA: 1,632 kg 51.5/48.5%
F31 330d: 1,756 kg 48.7/51.3%
F31 335xd: 1,785 kg 50.1/49.9%
F31 340xi: 1,751 kg 50.3/49.7%

G20 330xi: 1,660 kg 50.9/49.1% (pre-LCI)
G20 330xi: 1,664 kg 51.6/48.4% (LCI)
G20 M340xi: 1,785 kg -unknown- (LCI MHEV)
G20 ALPINA B3: 1,797 kg -unknown- (pre-LCI)
G20 ALPINA D3: 1,869 kg 53.7/46.3% (pre-LCI MHEV)
G21 320i: 1,627 kg 47.1/52.9% (pre-LCI)
G21 320d: 1,740 kg 47.7/52.3% (pre-LCI MHEV)
G21 330xd: 1,905 kg 49.9/50.1% (pre-LCI MHEV)
G21 M340xd: 1,911 kg 50.1/49.9% (pre-LCI MHEV)
G21 M340xi: 1,802 kg 49.1/50.9% (pre-LCI MHEV)
