Appalling tyre wear on 330e?
I took delivery of my 330e in October 2019, and have done only 11,500 miles to date. I was therefore rather surprised to discover today that both rear tyres are completely shot - down to the to the wear indicators across the entire middle 3/5ths already.
My previous 320d F30 touring never did less than 20,000 miles on a set of rear tyres (Goodyear Eagle F1 255/35/R19), so I'm far from happy that I'm getting barely 55% of that on my new G20! The car came fitted with Bridgestone Turanza's (255/35/R19 (96Y)) - has anyone else noticed such poor tyre life on the 330e or have suggestions for better wearing alternatives (other than the Goodyear Eagle F1), as I need to change them ASAP....... Thanks for any help. |

I have the 330i, nearly 9k miles and tyres look almost brand new still.
Stick with Goodyear if you can like you had before, a good tyre as you well know! |

I have ordered a pair of Goodyear F1 and will do a comparison. Not sure if it's the 330e's extra 180kg batteries over the rear axle that is accelerating wear, or that the pressures were over recommended levels at the start, as I haven't changed them...... |

Then that mileage for a set of tyres is atrocious. Although as you say wear across the middle points to over inflation.

Perhaps the dealer didn't deflate them during the PDI checks if this is the case? |

Would be interesting to see the wear pattern, before making comment.
As to pressures what have you been running? Over 11k miles, and through the seasons, surely you have adjusted/checked the pressures several times in that mileage. |

I had the conti contacts on my Audi, people used to slate them as being too soft, poor grip, yet I thought they were brilliant? And so must Audi to stick them on the S and RS models, but another good tyre imo. |

I regulalry checked the pressures of the rear tyres and had them inflated in accordance with the iDrive settings for the tyre size (set to 'Comfort' mode).
Here's the wear (same on both rears) after the 11,500 miles....... Last edited by petejigsaw; 07-07-2020 at 06:48 AM.. |

So do I go back to BMW and ask them to cough up for new ones, as I have always had them inflated to the recommended setting as per i-Drive for the tyres fitted to the car.......?

A fella who comes to visit his mum who lives across the road from me has the same issue(20d) as do I(30i) on not far off the same mileage as you |

Definitely strange to wear so much in the middle on those.
My Golf ate some front tyres in a similar mileage but was used quite hard and also lots of short runs in town as well (Bridgestone S001s). My 330e is fitted with the Pirelli P7s but the way I'm driving it, reckon they should last a while.

Inflated to 2.8 bar, the recommended setting for the tyres as per i-Drive for 'comfort' partially loaded, which tallies with the sticker on the door.
I don't know what else I'm expected to do........? |

Think most recommended pressures are set to make it more efficient. 2.8 bar is 40psi which I think is way too high. I'd imagine 35/36 would be plenty.

No doubt about it, that's over inflation. You won't have any recourse with BMW. Too many variables involved and no way for you to prove correct pressures were used.
As many have suggested, lower the pressures on your new tyres and don't rely on those shitty air machines in petrol stations. Get a tyre shop with proper gauges to check them monthly. |
