If it’s at the crank, a JB+ brings around 20-25bhp to the table easily. Except all the inheriting properties of the car will probably be amplified (like the jerkiness in Sport mode).

Thanks. Probably wait until after the warranty is up, and going to get the 5 year extended warranty so by that time there will be a lot more information available to make decisions.

Dinan
I personally think i will wait for the Dinan flash to come to market. When asked they mentioned that they're currently working on the N55, B58 and new M5 engine but once those are completed they will circle back to the others.
Just would feel better knowing that the tune would be written by engineers rather than who knows what over at PTF. The matching warranty doesn't hurt either. The question is, how long will i be waiting? |

Ah gotcha. I guess they concentrated on piggybacks and are now back to tuning?

I did. And my car was temporarily bricked for 3 days. And then they said they’d remotely tune my car for me but they never showed up. Nor did they respond to me after that. So I thought enough was enough and went for the JB+ for now.

Im not saying a OTS flash but a custom remap done on a dyno. They will fine tune your specific engine during few hours. A jb+ is just tricking the dme to turn up boost with nothing else changed.

Ahhh. Well unfortunately. Where I live. The closest all wheel dyno is more than an hour away. And I think I’d have to pay $1000+ for a custom tune, along with dyno fees and stuff which would come to around $1200 in all. I wouldn’t spend so much just for a tune on a 2.0. Especially considering my car is a lease and will go back at the end of the lease (I won’t buy it out). The JB+ satisfied my needs for now. I might try an OTS tune again in a few months. Or better. If I can actually take it to a shop that will flash it for me, I’ll look into that.

And if you plan on keeping the car then yes. I’d spend that money on it, especially if it comes with a warranty. Else, $400 a year ($1200 for three years of fun) doesn’t sound too good to my wallet. Quote:
I would’ve got the JB4 but the install looked crazy. That’s why I didn’t get it.

Thanks for the reply LJ. Not sure it’s wise I mess with that with only 91 AKI fuel and very hot and humid weather, sounds like a recipe for knock and detonation.

Also, I’m running 93 AKI. Idk if that matters or not but yes. Car is performing flawlessly in these temps (it’s cold here). I even scanned my car for any errors yesterday and there were absolutely none. The car boosts harder and I can feel the difference. I’d say around 15-20hp at the wheels? Edit - Sorry. I just realised you meant it wasn’t wise for you to mess with it. If you’re looking for a temporary boost in power (no tuning till you’re out of warranty), I’d recommend the JB+ at around the 50%? You can contact terry or mike if you have doubts. Mike is always ready to answer. I haven’t spoken to terry ever but I’m sure he’ll answer your questions too. I know guys running JB+ in the Middle East without issues and it gets insanely hot there (40+C days and high humidity).

I would be curious to know what octane the chap in the middle east is running on. There is actually quite a bit of difference in regards to safety / knock prevention when running on 91 AKI or 93 AKI. I wonder what testing is / has been used by Terry and Mike to confirm that the JB+ is not causing knock or detonation when using on various boost strength settings, various octane levels and climate types. I had a little device on my Sti7 that was basically a little microphone device that was placed in a strategic location on the engine block and if knock was detected it would light up a series of lights on the display of the dash mounted device. How do these guys measure det or knock in their testing I wonder? Cheers |
