Exclamation When You Think You're Fast - 918 Trolled by Koenigsegg Agera

There are multiple wow moments going on here beside 2 multimillion dollar Hypercars roaring down the Autobahn...

The fact that the other cars got TF out of the way (except ironically a BMW driver X5). The Agera effortlessly gapping a 918 Spyder. But also the epic balls of iron on the 918 driver hitting 216mph on a public highway that's NOT empty!

Having spent a few years driving over there, I'd say that's some remarkably irresponsible driving. Cars are both cool though.

Any iteration Koenigsegg is just in another league, basically an H2R with 4 wheels.

I wonder how the braking ability is on the 918... the Koenigseggs have a well documented incredibly short brake zone.

This has always been my concern with mega high speed driving.
The fastest I've ever driven was @ 160mph on a open and empty from what I can remember stretch of Tollroad many years ago. Of course I was young and have no desire to reach those speeds again. I had the ability to brake slowly and gradually. I can't even fathom 200mph. Much less around other cars. The thought of having to panic brake is frightening...

Par for the course on the Autobahn. Trucks are forbidden from the left lane where there are 3 lanes, and even the slow cars do over 100mph.

I hit 270kph or 168mph almost every day on my short commute to work on A81. Perfectly safe if you pay attention and look far enough ahead and envision what the people to the right might do.

Here's a top speed run between 2 exits on the autobahn. Nothing to it.

I feel like people on the autobahn are much more aware of cars behind them than your typical driver on the US interstate system.

How far ahead you need to look to see a technical issue such as flat tire?

Funny what some people calling safe...

Isn't it like a 6 month process in order to obtain a driver's license in Germany? I do know that driving over there is taken seriously unlike here with our on-board happy meals, makeup kits, and distracting electronic devices.

A friend used to work for Aston Martin, and did their in-house advanced driving course. First thing on the first day was to accelerate to 120mph (OK, not 'fast' for a supercar), and do an emergency stop; press the pedal to the floor so the ABS kicks in. The instructor did it, then they swapped and he did 3 times in succession. The brakes didn't fade, and they weren't carbon/exotic. He drove a number of supercars there, and he said that the thing that consistently blew his mind was braking performance.

I'm sure these cars would be safer driven at 100mph like the rest of the cars around them, but 200mph emergency stops are something they can dispatch with ease.

At what precise speed do you deem it safe for the aforementioned issues and what technical calculations helped support said conclusions?

If I had the blessed opportunity to drive the 'bahn, I'd simply check my tire pressures and look for any bubbles prior to driving. These modern ZR...Y rated tires can handle 168 mph with ease. It does nothing to worry about a flat. It's out of your hands no matter the rate of speed.

I just looked it up....ZR...(...Y) which is what PS4S are rated is good for above 186 mph (300 kph), the highest speed rating there is.

It's legal here for a reason. Drivers pay a lot more attention, are used to high speeds, and there are mandatory vehicle inspections. Plus in the winter it's mandatory to have winter tires. So you can maintain these speeds even in January.

To me this is as safe as a daily commute on I75 back home. With less chance of a stray bullet and no pot holes. Besides, speed doesn't kill, so the goal is to avoid the really sudden deceleration.

This.

You can let worry and fear ruin a perfectly good drive, or you can just get out there and enjoy it. I choose the latter.

Autobahn is smooth, wide, with very gentle corners. I've done over 150mph on the Nordschleife, and that is a scary experience. Guardrails or concrete walls a foot from your side mirrors at all times. I'm almost at my life goal of a 7:55 lap, and that is WAY riskier than doing full out on the Autobahn.
