03/2021.50 OTA Available in Aus
I had a notification today that a new update was available.
Downloaded 03/2021.50 and it installed over the air this afternoon. Can't see any major differences at this point, other than the address input in the maps section which is already well known. Worth checking for updates if you're still running an older version! |

I had this update installed by the dealer in April.
It annoys me that it takes so long for BMW to release the update to the general public. One important thing that this update fixes, which has annoyed many people, is that the tachometer in the HUD now works in Sports Modes.

Yeah I got the notification as well today. Downloaded to phone but haven't had a chance to hop in the car to load it up.
Never thought I would ever see a OTA update happen! |

The start up sounds are still there no matter what mode you start the car in. The pops and bangs are still there in Sports Plus, especially when decelerating, and the loud growl is still there when accelerating, but I guess it’s all a little subdued when compared with new. I just wonder if I have simply got used to the noises so that they don’t surprise me anymore.

The update fixed my problem with the tacho in the HUD, but this was installed at the dealership. Perhaps you could call your dealer to see if they can help. You may have to take your car in to get it sorted.

Update successfully done. No major changes. No issues with the rear camera lines going haywire like a few people had (including me) last time.

Installed here as well. Can't see any changes of note, as usual wiped all the coding.

I have had notification every day for the past week to install, but never had the time to do so. Today I go down to the car, and the dam thing doesn't give me the option to install? In settings it says ready to install and you will be notified?
Can I force the install? If so, how? |

Battery probably isn't charged enough. Just wait for it to come back once the car decides to charge the battery - I still don't know the magic formula for that. Otherwise you can get a proper charger, charge the battery and then how for a drive and it'll likely work.

Very frustrating trying to get the update to occur.
Had no problem getting OTA to my phone, then to the car… but the car won't update, despite me driving everywhere… should be a way to force the update. I realise that it will wipe my coding… but I want the new update as I can't stand the current navigation input system, I much prefer the old process. |

Make sure your battery is fully charged before activating the update.

I recently drove to Young and back (4 hour round trip) so I'm assuming my battery was charged fully after that, and still no option to update the software in idrive… so frustrating.

I have the battery sense module on my battery, so I can track my battery condition via an app, and I can say that when the car decides to actually charge the battery or not is seemingly pretty complicated. The old days of the alternator always charging the battery to 100% then stopping isn't the case for this car, it's definitely got some sort of logic to it. It's weird too, because I have had auto stop/start no longer work because the battery was too flat - but the car still didn't charge it! Then, next week, it starting charging... go figure.
I had to charge mine up manually, then went for a relatively short drive for the update to work. |

That's right. The alternator is not always engaged to charge the battery. Instead, sometimes it trickle charge while the car is braking. So, driving the car for 100km on the freeway may not result in the battery getting recharged. BMW uses this as a fuel saving measure. It is definitely worthwhile investing in a battery charger especially with all these snap lockdowns and we are not driving our car as much. I pop mine on the charger every month or so to top it up… I was also told this also tends to extend the life of the battery.
