M340i or C63S Coupe for European trip?
I have a trip to Europe this summer and will be picking up something new for euro delivery. My current choices are M340i or C63S Coupe.
If I get an M340i, I will keep my M4 for now, but a C63S Coupe would replace it. I’m not a huge fan of the C63 styling but do love that engine. Considering this will be a 3 week trip from Germany down to Italy I’d like to have something that’s a lot of fun to drive. If you guys were in my shoes what would you go with? |

Have had several MBs over many years...some more powerful than others, but never had one I thought qualified as "fun"....too much "bank vault on wheels" feeling. BMW feels more like an athlete ready to run...leave the Benz...take the Bimmer (and the cannolis).

Like the others said I feel that the choice depends on whether handling or raw power is your preference.
Hard to tell now with the M340i, but if your trip consists of a lot of around town and twisty road driving, I’d take the M340i. But, if you’re blasting down the Autobahn and sticking to the highways for the most part, the C63S will be the better choice. As much of a BMW fanboy that I am, the engine, exhaust, and power increase over the M340i would make the C63S my choice.

I drove G20 330 and I was pleasantly surprised so being left with M340 may not be so bad but I was looking at C63S coupe just because it looks so much better than a sedan to me.

This x1000. That is a great description of how the Mercedes Benz feel.

I have done ED both at the Welt and Mercedes Kundencenter. The Welt is way more jazzy, maybe because we did it 3 times they gave up quite a treatment. However, the trip is way more fun than the delivery. Go places where train and planes can't get to. Trust me stay away from touristy spots you can thank me later.
I would choose G20 over Merc at this time. |

I generally agree with the sentiments about MB being a bank vault on wheels, but If it's strictly between an m340i and a c63s, I'd have to go with the c63. It would be hard to pass on the v8 for a 3 series. If the bmw option was an m2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, I'd go with the Bimmer.

The logical answer is the one that's more fun, but this is a strange combo of cars. The C63S is a luxury coupe with lots of power, but still heavily leaning towards straight line speed and luxury and not necessarily driving dynamics. The M340i is a luxury sedan with some very nice sporty enhancements to give a taste of track-like performance. They are both kind of jack of all trades, master of none, not sacrificing luxury or usability too much for the sake of driving dynamics like lets say a 911 or even an MX-5. I'd say the M340i is probably going to lean more on being more fun as a driver's car. The updated interior is going to be a bit more novel than the older C63S. But the C63S is going to sound nicer and probably be a bit more satisfying given how the V8 performs over the 6. Answer: Rent a Porsche so you can abuse it more and not worry about break-in procedures and better negotiate a discount on the new car on the lot when the time comes.

C63s in a heartbeat. Wouldn't even think twice.
I love my M340i.... but I'm not passing up on a sweet twin turbo V8
