M235i GC, not M240i GC.

That's a key distinction. It means the car will have a transverse B48 derivative with ~300hp, rather than the longitudinal B58 with 382hp that future M*40i models will have.

Indeed. A huge shame. I had the opportunity to drive a 2 series FWD the other day and it was very clearly different, the steering was obviously corrupted under power.

Where BMW managed to find the so called huge majority of people who didn't notice their 1 series was RWD to justify this upcoming change, I will never know.

Long live the current M135i/140i

thats the nice thing about software. a simple update can extend it to include more. If this display is full color they can easily add it. Given this is BMW, it would be in an LCI update starting with their 7/8 series first and down to the x5 and 5er LCI then onto the g20 LCI in a few years.

If you have map directions in the HUD, why do you need the map at all in the cluster?
They can doesn't mean they will. Bmw is unlikely to get your car an OTA OS update like Tesla.

Yes. My mistake. Id be perfectly happy with a lift back 2er with msport and xdrive and 300hp and 25mpg. Sign me up for one in estoril blue

Can’t say I’m liking the new M Sport steering wheel.... cuz I’m not. Current one is way nicer!

Digital cluster just like a 1984 corvette - no thanks.

Push button e brake - no thanks.

A camera pointed at me in a car connected to the internet - no F in way!

Other than those disappointments, the car looks fairly similar to the F30 which is a good thing.

yes. he even stated the answer to your question in the video. Being digital though they can tweak how it displays to make it seem not as good as the higher models. Im okay with this since we'll probably be able to configure ourselves given the right software and an enet cable.
Too bad that more expensive 5 and 7 don't have it but 3 will soon. What is bmw thinking?
I think the LCI versions will get it as well.

But WHY would they do that?? When making it just as good wouldn't cost them any more!! Surely they need to max out on this type of thing to compete with tech heavy Audi and MB's bling!! Have to say tho, when I tested a TT a couple of years ago the virtual display made me feel like I was playing a video game rather than driving a car! If standard cars get analogue I'll stick with that rather than paying extra for a digidash.

And yes, if it gets to 4720mm the G20 will be the same size as the 3rd Gen (yes 3rd!!) 5 series!! But all cars get bigger, I just hope it doesn't gain quite the 9cm to match the e34's length... an inch or two I could maybe accept, although I find my F30 plenty long enough!

well. the gauges look fine by me. But that steernig wheel tho... its screaming 'dodge' at me. and not the nice new dodges, but the early 2000s dodges...

Nothing about this shares anything in theory with the corvette's gauges other than the fact that its not analog. theres no 'just like it' here. I get ur being sarcastic to make a point but to draw the parallel here as a reason to not be interested in it makes zero sense.

Even if you have xdrive, there's a huge difference between a RWD based chassis and a FWD based one, especially in terms of balance.

ive driven the x1/x2 and understand how it will feel. Im not a race car driver or track enthusiast. I need a nicely equipped car with awd so i can slap snow tires on it, have a lil fun and make my way to the mountains in the winter when its dumping.

I've got an X1 loaners today, and it's AWFUL.

The base seats are GARBAGE. The Hyundai Elantra absolutely has nicer seats, I know because my sister has one as a commuter car.

The steering feels like a very poorly done video game steering wheel controller. When the AC compressor kicks in there is a strong irritating vibration in the steering wheel.

The interior space is surprisingly decent for it's class size.
The suspension does an acceptable job at quelling daily driving bumps.

Stock audio system SUCKS.

Overall, this does not feel like a BMW in any way, shape, or form, other than it has the BMW logo on it.

There are a good number of lower cost cars/CUVs I would get over this thing. I can't believe how horrid the stock seats are.
I feel like I'm falling off of the seat forward while driving, and when braking it feels worse. Who the hell signed off on these crap seats!?

agree....

i drove what was a fully loaded X2 at ultimate drive. And it still didn't feel as i told my friends "like a bmw". There were some 530es there which were rwd, and even though they were actually slower given they weighed more, they still felt much much more balanced and neutral

I was being a sarcastic - the new displays are better BUT I still prefer analog gauges by a mile.

Let's see how the digital gauges work with Sun glare.

i will agree with you on the seats but do you really think bmw is going to deviate from the current 2er seats with the gc? The x1/x2 is based on the mini cooper countryman so if you know that car you know the x1/2.

My answer to your question is, I don't know.

I do know that I HATE the standard seats in the X1.
And if BMW or Mini use them, they both still deserve this

I have no experience with the Mini Countryman, other than I do like how it looks.

I drove a regular Mini years ago, and I recall that that one was very fun to drive, and the seats were quite good. However, they were sport seats, and BMW does excellent sport seats.
For me, BMW sport seats are MUST HAVE.

Recently I drove an S4, and I am very surprised at how great those sport seats are. They even rival my 340i Msport seats, though both are quite excellent imo.

Agree same boring speedometer and tachometer. I want WIFI and Porn, right there in the middle of the console. Resize those gauges to the corners and play Porn in 4K preferrably. Yes!

Yep that definitely helps with driving focus and sharp attention to the road ahead.

It's not just the X1. I could say that about any stripper loaner car I've had. Might as well be a different brand...
