they should've made the tailights similar to the new x3's.

There always has to be room for improvement for the LCI.

I always think that they start out with the LCI, then gimp it down a bit for the first generation.

Like how BMW kept "re-discovering" LED blinkers for like 20 years for each LCI

Agreed. LCI is usually a better looking, slicker version of the same car

Going off this car the more I see it... always loved the 3er but, however well this drives, it ain’t no 3er!! For a start it’s just huge now it’s broken the 4.7 metre barrier. And that grille... ugh bling bling bling. No manual for the more powerful engines either and looking at the UK configurator the price has now gone through the roof!! No thanks it’s the end of an era for me

Gotta love it. This thread is the exact same conversation of “woe are we, BMW has ruined the 3er” that takes place every seven years. The exterior is ruined. The interior is ruined. Truly it’s the same seven year conversation. It’s mostly entertaining until it drones on for seven pages. It goes on at least until they arrive on U.S. shores and people start buying them. No one ever actually admits they were part of the early conversation. They just go buy one.

Yes, exactly. It's a sure thing that people will hate the new 3 series when it's first released. I think bmw drivers just hate any and all change in regard to the 3 series. Of course if the car hadn't changed over the last few iterations, everyone would critique bmw for not evolving.

Resemblances with X7

Now that's a real large kidney grille...

...but the interior looks familiar...

...and that's why the G20 has an empty spot below the dial.

You're absolutely right of course and up to now I've been defending this car! I may well end up buying one assuming it drives as well as BMW say it will. I actually like the styling and I really LOVE the interior it's just a shame it's got so big now and maybe that grille will look quite cool when actually standing in front of the car (rather than a photo) I guess I'm simply saying it's not the 3 we all know and love but yes, maybe it will actually be the best 3 yet!

But it's the end of an era for all of them. the A4 is bigger than ever (already plenty over 4.7m), the C-class is bigger than ever, the Passat is the size of a small flat, the Optima is the same size as a 5 series. You can't single out BMW unless just trying to advertise that you're going to dump the marque in favour of something else, like the guy who said that because there's no manual available in whatever version he wants, he's going to look at a Volvo, or a Lada or something.

And this idea (not that you expressed it, but it's prevalent) that because the 3 is bigger than it used to be, it can't be a driver's car... well, it's the work of a mentalist. Does the 5 series in all its incarnations suddenly no longer exist? That has been a driver's car since 1972, and has always been bigger than a 3.

BullF****** Sh*t !
The E46 & E92 was an INSTANT hit , it was loved and people were going insane about the E92 M3
But when the F30 was released , I said back then it was trash and to this day while I own an M4 ZCP I still say it's the biggest pile of dog shit bmw has ever produced.
7 years later , they produced yet another dog shit! Nothing has changed.

Yep it's like clockwork. It's honestly amazing how BMW has been somehow ruining the 3 series for the last 25 some years.

Yep, true
Because at that price point, there's nothing else worth having. The BMW 3 series is a better all round package than anything else on offer from its competitors - even if the 3's DNA gets more and more diluted in every iteration!

You also speak horseshit. You clearly weren’t around when the E46 came out, and presumably blinded and deafened yourself in 2005 when the E90 appeared.

Every generation thinks it’s the first one to have *the* voice. Every generation isn’t and doesn’t. This will sell and you will troll, as night follows day.

Given what I see on roads all over America, the Middle East and the bits of Knightsbridge that the locals aren’t allowed into, I know to whom this will sell and sell well!

C’mon, look at the fronts of the biggest selling vehicles in the USA and tell me this isn’t going to be a smash hit.
