I’m one of those few. Don’t need AWD, don’t need the weight or complexity and for me it is overrated.

I want to do things myself on track, I don’t want the car to do them for me. It’s why I skipped the Mitsubishi Evo and stayed with BMW.

No RWD and manual means no sale for me.
You don't need a full size trunk or rear seat either, but that didn't stop you from buying one.

I 100% agree. But do yourself a favor (if you haven't already) and make sure you come to terms with no more manual after G80 is gone. Because after this, any hope of another manual generation is pure dream state

interesting to see that the X drive option in the M3/M4 will be just that.. an option.. like pretty much the rest of the entire BMW lineup.

This part cannot be emphasized enough.

in the new format.. BMW is trying to keep up with the Mullers... so having multiple trim levels from the jump makes sense.

Porsche has base, S, GTS, GT3, GT3RS, etc.. BMW will have base, COMP, CS, and CSL

BMW, like usual lately, following stupid trends instead of leading. These trims are unnecessary and gimmicky.

I have a 6spd 18 F80 ZCP that will have around 10k miles on it in 10 years. Willing to sell for 100k in 2028.

Why is it lame?
Same reason it's lame they provide no option to turn rev match on and off with the MT, obviously people have times they want to turn it on and off.

The same reason it would be lame if they was no traction control and stability on the car at all. Obviously people want to use it, and it wouldn't be safe for many without it. It would make me virtually never use it, when they could, you know, just enable the existing feature....

yay for MT
Because not everyone wants the most hardcore, compromised essence of a car. I specifically wanted a non-competition M3 with a DCT – one single car that could take five people and comfortable enough to do daily commute driving on shitty roads in heavy traffic but also able to do fun driving and be able to put it away wet. More choices are better.

I have much more fun with a MT in old Porsches and Alfas anyway.

For those that might know, is it still good practice to wait a year or two after the M3 is released like the regular 3 series? Without fail, the first year or two of 3 series always has a lot of little annoying issues. Is it not like that for the M3 since it's largely based on the regular 3 series? Or are there other issues the M cars face even though their platforms are a bit more mature?
Even an manual 340i is not a comparison to a DCT/AT M3. I had a 340i previously and they aren't even close to being the same cars.

Never said it was. For me, I just don't need an M3. The M340i would have been exactly what I needed if it had come with a manual. The only reason I'll be getting the G80 M3 is because it comes with a manual. It's a bit of a waste of money, but I'll probably end up just keeping it a while so I can justify it this time.

I agree about the stock exhaust, I have the performance exhaust and it's throatier, but still not as great as it could be.

It's already a blessing bmw even care about 'purist'. I'd just kill manual once and for all with G80/82 and rwd as well if cost in keeping such a config outweighs sales (most likely it doesn't though). And kick those 5% 'purist' out into G87 M2.

Holy crap yes! 6MT RWD definitely for me.

Does this mean there would be 6MT AWD as well?!

As an LCI M6 Comp Pack owner - mainly because this was the lightest way to get a V8TT + decent + 4 seater from any brand.

I drove an M4 F82 6MT and was very close but the interior and drive wasn't quite there.

I'll outright say that I'll take a G82 M4 6MT or 7DCT over an M8 with an 8AT. I'd prefer RWD over AWD but the gearbox comes first for me - I'm reminded of the gearbox every time I change gears which is when a 6MT or 7DCT will make me happier every time but I'm only reminded of RWD once a week or so.
