Driver Assistance Restricted - Error message pops up randomly

I have been getting the following error message in the Idrive display

"You can continue driving. Driver Assistance permanently restricted. If the problem recurs, have it checked by your service center" when I try to activate Cruise control.

Nothing is shown when I click on Affected systems. The error disappears with in few seconds and I am able to use the system again.

This has happened at least 4 times in the past one week.

I made sure that all the cameras and radar is not blocked by dirt or something.

Any idea on what might be going on? I have booked a service appointment for tomorrow

Idrive sw version: March 2023.45

So I had that happen as well on my '23 M440. Two things I noted, I'd washed the car the night before, rolled it into the garage and set the parking brake. When I pulled out the next morning I had the anomaly where rear pads will "stick" to rear rotors when wet, and so as I drove off there was that instantaneous pop as they broke free. The driver restricted problem happened shortly thereafter, coincidence? Hard to say, I thought maybe somehow that might have effected a wheel speed/abs sensor and triggered the error. When I got to my destination I turned the car off, back on, and then reset the iDrive system as well - just thinking a good computer reboot couldn't hurt. The problem hasn't returned since (been about 500 miles). Nothing conclusive here, just my observations on the chance it's helpful.

Check sensors on a front bumper for damage, it is most likely cause.
the tiny stone can knock sensor out.

May be your camera. There have been cases of the windshield modules or cameras needing replaced, which all have been done under warranty

I had it happen twice on Monday, but it was raining heavily so I just figured the camera got misted over. I've seen it on heavy downpours and fog as well but if it was clear out, no clue. Maybe a big juicy bug nailed the camera or sensor?

Thank you everyone for sharing your inputs. Took it to the dealership today and they said they performed a reset of the steering.

This is what the invoice stated:

HOOK UP BATTERY CHARGER/ICOM VEHICLE TEST. FOUND FAULTS FOR PMA OPERATING DUE TO LOSS OF MULTI-TURN VALUE. FOLLOW TEST PLAN TEST PLAN STATE NEED TO DO A STEERING START-UP. FOLLOW ABL FOR STEERING START-UP COMPLETED. TEST DROVE THE CAR FOR 5 MILES AND NO FAULTS FOUND AT THIS MOMENT

No idea what this means

2020 M340i. I purchased used CPO. Few months into ownership I got this warning. At first, it was random. Then, within a week or so, it became every time I drove the car. The warning was on.

Took car to local dealership. Was the rear bumper sensors. They had to replace them. at almost $2000 (removal of bumper, parts, labor). Good for me, it was covered.

The first dealership visit did not fix my issue.

It came back again last week. I took it to the dealership and they found faults for steering wheel touch sensor and touch control unit module in the steering. Both were replaced.

Now it's a waiting game to see if this has resolved the issue

I would suggest visiting the dealership to read the stored error codes, unless you have other ways to access them.
