My dealer has updated the software in my new 420i and the steering intervention has so far stayed OFF again today! I hope this is a permanent fix. The dealer assures me it is.

However the speed camera warning is still only appearing in the instrument cluster, not the HUD display. I have another call into my dealer.

I had that issue but a reboot of Idrive (long hold of volume knob) has sorted it so speed camera info is always in the HUD. Have you tried that?

I'll contact my dealer.

Thanks everyone
Got mine in June 2020 and had to turn it down straight away as it's positively dangerous. Think the colour of the button changed but can't remember what from to but I've never had to change it again!

Do you happen to know what software version this that your dealer has just updated for you?

Sorry for the delay in replying. Not sure what the dealer did, but the software now running on my 420i is 03/2021.46. The steering intervention has stayed off since.

However I can't get the safety camera warning to show in the HUD, despite repeatedly setting it to do this. Nothing back from the dealer yet!

Quick update - dropped mine off yesterday, picked it up this morning, steering intervention now stays off 🥳

Tim @ BMW UK said that this will become an over the air update in due course so if you can't get into a dealer or it doesn't bother too that much don't panic… it's coming.

I now get safety camera warning in the HUD - as reported elsewhere, turn on the infotainment in the HUD, should then get the camera warning in the HUD!

Don't bank on it staying there. I've had infotainment list in the HUD since day one, but still have camera alerts reverting back to the cluster every few days.

Now getting camera warning in HUD by doing what you said so some good news. Dealer is still saying no software update available even though there is version 03/2021.50 out and mine is 11/2020.20, I Will try another dealers I think.

Any chance that bmw will do the same for petrol stations prices/fuel type search, it does not remember what you set up always come back to default setting.
On x3 I have id6 and it does remember my search settings.

Resurrecting this thread:

I am looking to buy a M240i (G42) manufactured in 2022. It has IDrive7, the same as in my previous M340i. In that car (2021 build) you could disable the steering intervention permanently.
In the M240i (with a 2023 software version), that no longer seems possible, and it reverts to re-setting itself every time the engine restarts.
Are others finding that newer software updates have now negated this feature where steering intervention/lane departure can be permanently switched off?

Yes it can't be switched off permanently in my G21 M340i 2024 model. I have a shortcut that I use to turn it off whenever I want to and this works well for me.

Now that's an interesting update on this thread!
I have the steering intervention feature permanently switched off as I absolutely loathe this feature for many of the reasons others have mentioned in previous posts on this thread.
However a couple of days ago whilst out and driving down a dual carriageway the intervention occurred on a couple of unsignalled lane changes, just the way it's supposed to work. I checked the driving assistance settings and the 'Steering Intervention' check box was still accessible but was unticked as I always have it set. How the hell does a feature which I have as unchecked because my preference is to not have it engaged decide it should be activated?
I have now managed to cancel the feature again but only by check ticking to activate it and then uncheck ticking to deactivate it again!
As it happened my wife's car was at my local dealership on Friday for MOT and service and I mentioned this episode with my car the previous day to the senior tech who like me had no idea why my car did that.
If it happens again it's going straight back to the dealership to have that investigated!
I'm not aware of any software update having been applied to my car recently all the previous ones, perhaps two or three at most, since the car was registered have all been OTA updates through the 'MyBMW' app.
My software version is currently running 11/2023.50.
