OP, so I haven’t commented on your listing previously, but this post is right on the money. I know taking a hit from a $4,400 expenditure is a hard pill to swallow, but if you want to sell these that’s what you’re going to have to do. You undoubtedly have a very nice setup here. But the fact of the matter is used tires and wheels from a private party sell for a fraction of retail. $1,500 is a much more reasonable starting asking price. Not the same setup for sure, but I recently bought a perfect set of genuine BMW style 392 17” wheels and almost new winter tires for $500.

Appreciate you posting this. Not to bash on a respected member of a forum selling a very solid set of wheels, but because data is power.

OP, I mean no offense to ANY of my comment. I too have followed this thread for awhile and would love to purchase your set. There's definitely a premium to be added to a trusted forum member, full set, and perfect condition wheels/tires. Having said that you should have known the risk when purchasing OEM wheels brand new. A bare minimum of 30%-40% depreciation will occur especially on these wheels since they are factory and mass produced. Maybe in 15 years they will be sought after like LTW wheels for the E36. But it's today and that's not the case. The absolute ceiling if a buyer was generous and easy sales process is $2k imho (again zero offense just an opinion). If I was local I'd do $1700 assuming we could meet at a shop for installation.

You have a great set and someone will buy it. It will not be for $2700 and most likely will be under $2k. No buyer should overpay for something when there are other data points out there like the quoted comment paying $1100 (let's assume it's all apples to apples and even it isn't what's the delta really bringing in on price?). If someone does pay more well the saying, "there's a sucker born every minute” is true. My $0.02.

No. $1500 for a barely used/extremely clean set is not a fair offer. Maybe for a set with tires near end of life.

If someone wants to make a reasonable offer near $2500 then i'm open to proposals.

$1,500 is exactly what I paid for a set exactly like this when I was swapping the square 791s that came on the M340i I bought, because I wanted staggered 792s. Even the tires were Michelin performance all seasons. I was only able to sell the square set of 791s with Cinturato P7 all seasons for $900.

I’ve pretty much quit commenting on forum members’ unrealistic asking prices, because they virtually all react just like you did. They have the price they want and they are not interested in the price the market is willing to pay. And they are perfectly happy for their listing to sit for months on end with no results. As I did here, I’ve decided not to be the first to try to inject some reality into the public listing and I don’t PM folks anymore either, because they just don’t care about reality.


You have a really nice set of wheels with really good tires and there is undoubtedly a forum member who would love to buy them…at a price that is in line with what the market will bear for used wheels and tires. I hope you are successful selling them.

Nope don’t care about your opinion unsolicited for this specific topic. Others with less impact personally by all means. I may have taken it into consideration in a private setting as we would do if we were friends sitting at the pub.
