Front License Plate

I just took delivery of my beauty yesterday and when the SA asked if I wanted to have the front license plate frame added, I couldn't bear the thought of them drilling into my front bumper. Any insight on chances of actually getting ticketed for not having one?

I’ve been considering the same question. I’m generally a “rule follower” in life, but I see that about 1/5 or 1/4 of cars in my area don’t have front plates. Primarily Tesla, BMW, Lexus, Cadillac, Mercedes, Audi, Range Rovers. This feels like a risk that I might take… living on the wild side, I know.

I’m looking at Sly Brackets BOZZmounts as a viable option that mounts on the lower grille with no drilling. (That’s why I asked in the tracking thread if the lower grille has active shutters.)

You'll get a fix it ticket for sub $50 probably. Then you just get a drill less mount, show you have it and then just take it off and move on. Any officer that stops you for a front license plate is probably just bored. I had no issues for 10 years running no front.

Haven't gotten a ticket on my car or the wife's the last 6 years or so, different cars and brands, most luxury brands and teslas drive without them these days anyways. I think cops have "higher priority" crimes to deal with these days unless you're just crazy unlucky.

In the cities you drive in within California, rare to get a ticket for this.

Freeways/highways are a different story, CHP is notorious for ticketing drivers for this, if you get stopped for other reasons (e.g. suspicion of speeding, DUI, etc), aka "pretext stop". They will cite CVC 5200 (a) on the ticket - it is an infraction, ~$197, no points.

agreed - - it's used like a de facto warrant. it allows them to lawfully stop drivers and poke around (i.e., "wingspan search") and to get a whiff of any possible ETOH, refer, et cet. i don't think any LEO's have the hopes of busting someone solely for a missing front lic. plate.

Got an EOS Bracket for my G80. But for now, I left it w/o any front plates as it looks much better

I live in Los Angeles and I've gotten several fix tickets from the Police (E46 3x Torrance & Inglewood PD, VW CC 1x Cerritos Sherriff) they are getting expensive and annoying.

Got stopped once. I had the temporary European plate in front from Euro delivery. They install plates front and back over there when I picked up the car. I think that annoyed the cop, he wasn’t very pleasant.

Afterwards I replaced the plate and had to find a
CHP office to prove the plate were on..

In case anyone is looking for an easy fix that's also very easily removed, this is what I went with. Super easy to install. Attaches by using the existing screws. Brand is Sto and Sho and they're actually based in state.
