Snapping nose in reverse in full lock position
Just in case if anyone else is having the same issue.
For the past several months, there is this nerve wrecking snapping/clunk sound (just once) when i reverse with the steering wheel in full lock position. The best way to describe it is it feels there is tension built up when i reverse in full lock and the tension gets released all at once while i was backing out. Only happens sometimes and only in full lock position. So i took it to the dealer 2 weeks ago and first they could not duplicate the sound.. as expected and i asked them to help me check there is any physical damages on the bearing and etc.. and i was willing to just deal with it since it doesnt affect the car unless i reverse. To my surprise, they somehow found the sound the next day. Since then, they replaced tie rods, struts and the sound is still there. They opened a case with BMW and Steering rack is next to be replaced TBH, it really doesnt sound like it is from the steering rack, i could feel the snapping coming from the suspension, but who knows. Mine is RWD, so it doesnt have front AC joint. I do have a 2023 540 Msport loaner with 2000 miles... very very comfortable cruiser without being floaty like the 7 series. |
