Paddle Shifters
Paddle shifters.... Not the stick-on extender kind... I just don't understand why so many variants command +$350 price points, and I'm baffled to haven't seen more affordable and functional replicas coming out of China that fit the G20.
Anyone out there know of a good set in the $100-$150 range? I found these on Amazon for $60, which IMHO are priced suspiciously cheap, so kind of a red flag. ...any thoughts? https://www.amazon.com/YOUYOUNX-Carb...492953&sr=8-39 |

It's more about the optics. I think the full size paddles look badass. Just having a tough time reconciling the price point the OEM's command... and mostly every aftermarket manufacturer appears to price these at a premium as well.

I see. It's all subjective I guess as I'm not a big fan of oversized paddles so I was just wondering. Coming from plenty of Audis including my current one, trust me, the stock paddles on the M340i are huge compared to what Audi equips their cars with, even the R8! On top of that they are made of cheap plastic. Having said that I have grown used to them as I've been using them since my first A3 back in 2006 when they debuted the "DSG" now called S-tronic (DCT) here in the US. Just having the paddles was badass to me, lol.

I'll want to change them when my order arrives, but primarily because I don't like the plastic on the touch points... The F22 M240i I've owned before had really lovely aluminium backs which felt great. |

I found the stock ones too small so bought some of the carbon fibre looking ones that stick onto the back of the stock ones. Didn’t fancy replacing the stock ones as the videos seemed a bit complex.
I’m actually very happy with them. Don’t stand out so you don’t notice them but the additional height and thickness make them much more useable for me. I may consider getting better replacement paddles in the future if I can find someone who can do the replacement. |

I was just talking about this with my buddy and we came to the conclusion that it's just a "BMW" tax. Look at cat-back exhausts, any other none german car, you can get something reasonable for around $1k. Select a German premium manufacturer and you're looking at double and many times triple. It's annoying when you're coming from an array of other cars as an enthusiast because the quality or performance of the parts isn't any better. End rant..
Anyhow, I like big paddles but it's strictly a price principal issue for me. Like you mentioned, 100-150 is reasonable. 300+ is laughable. |

I am very satisfied with it in terms of having aluminium material paddles and slightly longer paddle which is easier for shifting. However, the clicking feel/feedback is still the same (obviously, can't expect that to improve lol) which is still kind of "crap" compare to paddles in like a Giulia. |

The hardest bit was taking off the steering wheel airbag, need to do this to get access to the paddle shifter switch. There's 2 consealed holes at the bottom of the steering wheel where I needed to poke bamboo skewer in to release the spring clip holding the airbag. Overall I wouldn't say it's very hard, just take a bit of patience since it took me a while of blind poking with the skewer to get it at the right position to release the clip (most likely due to my inexperience). Once you get it off then it's very straight forward, just unscrew the original paddles off the switch and swapping it. |
