Break-in service?

Is there no service scheduled at 1000-1500 miles to change the engine oil and differential oil to remove any break-in metal shavings?

No official one but nothing stopping you doing it anyway.

Modern engines don't really need it, but it's personal preference.

Full fat M Cars need a service at 1000miles but this is a fluid change rather than for metal bits etc.

I went into the dealership service center to install an MPE and also asked if there is a break-in service needed (oil change& etc). I was around 1000 miles. They said it wasn't necessary for my car and only "M" cars require the break-in service. (M340i).

I brought my car in at 1200 miles, my SA told me the same thing. I did it anyhow for peace of mind just in case since she's a long term keeper for me!

This is not a "real" M car and no break-in service is necessary.

I did change my oil at 5K and again as scheduled at 10K for a piece of mind even though it is a lease.

I did the same. I took car in for service at 4-5 months (~3k miles). Took it in again at 1 year (7-8k). From now on will probably do annual since I'm only averaging 7k/year (currently below 10k and have had the car since April 2019).

I would probably opt for a 1200 miles engine oil service if I were buying the car. That and a diff fluid drain/refill.

I changed the oil myself at 1200 miles. Found a little bit of shiny metal bits in the filter. Better to just do it for peace of mind

Isn't that what the filter is for?
