Plus I believe you used engine enamel paint? I used the stuff that they use to paint the insides of a grill. I assumed it would withstand heat better but I guess either I was wrong on thinking that or I made a mistake by applying too many layers?

I did see that and regret not getting it. I’ll use that the next time I remove my tips to repaint it. Right now, you’ll notice the crack only if you look for it. To an untrained eye, it isn’t that obvious. So I’ll wait for it to chip a bit more before I repaint it.

You were right. Took a serious bit of force, weirdly I was the same on the drivers side(passenger for you) in that it was way more difficult even with using a little WD40 & it took me a good 10- 15mns & really sore fingers to remove.

Seems as if my MP cf tips will not fit properly but I did rush to get them on as the weather rapidly began to change for the worse.

If the tips are off, maybe measure the two and see if the part where the tip slides in are the same diameters? Wonder why BMW made different sized tips for the same car.

Reinstalling the tips are extremely easy. No force needed. It easily slides in and locks into place. Takes all of 5 seconds (or less actually) per side to reinstall.

I should have done that before I put the new ones on.

However it seems as if they may not be too different in size as they do fit...just not properly but after having dug the 1st below attachment:

That seems to suggest that seems to suggest that the tips have to go right up to the 'pins' which you may have felt or seen when removing yours. Now as I say I haven't done so as yet as in the earlier fitment instructions prior to the one I have shown it suggests that a bit of cutting to the exhaust pipe was needed, now granted the instructions are for the MPE and not the MSE that I have made me think I might not have to do anything other than push them on but now thinking about it the gap I have from the end of the tip to the 'pin' is near the exact same as the M logo on the tip to the placement of the tip in relation to the apron(see below) as said in the above attachment.

Leaving it as is leaves it sticking out a bit far and I'm not sure if it does increase the risk of burning so much that I should just remove them again until I can cut the parts I need to off.

You mean you didn't try pushing it past the pins because of the screw thingys on the m performance tip?

No, you physically can't push it that far as the existing exhaust is too long, unless it's possible to open the clamps on the cf tips further which I never tried & I highly doubt can be done.

Update: exhaust tips still look good like they did when I painted them 4 or 5 months ago. No signs of chipping yet.

I found that a 1/4 x 2 inch toggle bolt works perfectly for this. Take the butterfly/anchor part off, pinch it together, and wedge it between the V clips (small side up). Makes this a 2 or 3 minute job.

Just wanted to provide a quick update as I’ve had these painted for over 3 years now. Definitely faded a bit but still looks good. Wouldn’t pay for the factory ones.
