Very very impressive work all around. This should be documented for future reference.

Can you please share the details of your wiring as well?

Thanks again!

My Euro light switch arrived today and now my Euro tail lights are fully functional.

Re wiring details, the wiring was pretty straight forward with most of the time required to remove/reinstall trim pieces to run 1 wire from the inner left tail light along the side of the vehicle to the front passenger footwell, where the BDC_BODY is located.

You will need:

1) 1 X .35mm dia. wire (I used 20 AWG) approximately 20 feet long
2) 2 x connector pins (61138369696) or repair wires
3) 1 X Euro light switch with rear fog button (61319461141 or 61319461142)

Wiring Details:

1) Remove the the trunk lid liner - https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...ter/1VncxwUczG

2) Assemble 1 of the connector pins to one-end of the .35 mm dia. wire and insert pin into position 6 of the inner tail light connector. Note the connector has a pin locking mechanism that must be released (flipped-up) before the pin can be fully inserted.

3) Route the wire from the rear inner tail light to the BDC_BODY, following the OEM wiring harness in the trunk lid and along the right side of the vehicle:

i) Behind the right-side trunk panel - https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...als/1Vne3omLMM

ii) Under the rear and front right-side door sill covers to the BDC_BODY in the front passenger footwell:
- https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...les/1VndrMi9O6

4) Measure the length of wire to the BDC_BODY connector (be generous) and cut-off any excess. Assemble the 2nd connector pin onto the wire-end. Insert the pin into the appropriate BDC_BODY connector/pin location. For my vehicle, the fog wire was inserted into pin 20 of connector A258*5B - https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...hts/1VnchjSa6D

5) Replace NA with Euro light switch. I did not follow the instructions provided since I was having difficulty unclipping the side panel - https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...sor/1Vndt4O7on. I was afraid I was going to break a clip or the panel itself. Instead, I removed the storage compartment below the light switch - https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...les/1Vne2HKUCV to access the spring clips on the back-side of the light switch.

6) FDL Code BDC_BODY --> CAFD 7083--> LCE_BEL_LIN_VAR --> 30_BEL_PL_FLC_NSL (rear fog only) or 34_BEL_PL_FLC_NSW_NSL (font and rear fogs). This coding is not essential since the switch will operate properly. ISTA+ will just report a BDC_BODY error until coded.

Nice!

Did you manage to wire up just one light output or both?

larrylam646 Amazing write-up!

Want to fly to the Netherlands to do this for me? I'm scared to do this to my brand new car... Popping out trim pieces and getting everything to go back properly has been nemesis over the years.

To clarify, there's only one bit of coding that needs done?

I wired up only one output of the BDC_BODY since the Euro taillights only have one fog light, on the driver's side. The schematic shows two connections, one each for LHD and RHD vehicles.

Yah, I hear you. I too was a little nervous but if you follow the instructions and do do not brute-force it, you should be fine. I did not break any trim pieces nor clips.

My Canadian vehicle did not come with a rear fog light so I swapped in Euro tail lights. If you plan on doing the same, then you will need to code your vehicle to operate properly with euro tail lights since the USA tail lights are physically different and operate differently i.e. the brake lamps are used as turn signal lamps. See post# 60 for the coding - https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...5&postcount=60. Please note, coding may differ depending on vehicle model - see jk1112 post 69 - https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1&postcount=69

If your vehicle was manufactured for the European market, I am surprised it did not already come with a functioning rear fog lamp.

Thanks again... Just picked the car up the other day.

My car is US-spec as I'm not an EU citizen and I plan on bringing this car back to the US with me in a few years.

Technically I don't have to change the tails, but I'm not a big fan of the red turn signals and lack of rear fog. My Tennessee built VW Atlas has proper tail lights FFS.

That royally sucks; I, personally, wouldn't of bother with this mod, if it meant I only ended up with one rear fog light functioning.

I prefer the symmetry of two lights burning, simultaneously but that's just me.

Regardless, thanks a lot for your contribution to the subject

I think there is a way to have 2 rear fogs if one orders a UK and ECE spec lights for each side. Then we will have fogs on both sides. Thats what I would do if I end up doing this mod.

Only if I can get the turn signals to function properly. The rest seems easy but a bit PIA based on what it used to take to do this mod. Everything was plug and play F and previous generation cars. Heck for most cars, all we had to do was to get rear fog switch in the and the rest was plug and play.

Great minds.. I was thinking the same exact thing..

Now, I just have to figure out where in the ROW has left and where might have the right taillight, with the required inner rear fog lights LED clusters.

I was told today that Mexican-spec vehicles comes with rear fog lights standard and uses the Euro-style taillights, so that's now an option also and might be easiest to source, one would assume..

And yes, on the F-Series generation, it was a cakewalk to do this mod. I did so may mods similar to this, it kind of spoiled me.

My M2 doesn't even come with front fogs but I had coded the front fog button to toggle-control the US Side Markers, on cue.. So cool but the G-Generation adds so much complications, I'm seeing it's not going to be that easy again..

Thanks to @Larry for at least giving us a glimmer of hope, by being the first to take the plunge, retrofitting the wiring.

So like some of you, I tried to FDL code the BDC_BODY to behave like the ECE tail lights but I could not discover how the tail lamp LEDs are physically and logically referenced/mapped. Without the mapping, it would be next to impossible to figure-out.

I then came across a posting by greekcs on side-marker delete (by changing the typecode to ECE and VO coding the FLM2s). I did not care to delete my side markers but I was curious to see if it would work. To my surprise, it worked.... on the F32 platform, this method would cause the turn-signals to hyperflash.

So that gave me the idea of doing the same thing with BDC_BODY.

1) I compared the US and ECE versions of all BDC CAFD files and note the differences between the US and ECE parameters that I did not want to change. See below...

7083 NFC_KEY_VALD_LONG 5min
7083 NFC_KEY_VALID_WINDOW_OPEN 20sec
7083 PF_SZT_LIN_VAR nicht_aktiv
7083 RCI_HF_FREQUENCY wert_04
7083 RCM_DEFAULT_IDG_4TH_BUTTON_LONG Wert_03
7083 RCM_PANIC_ALARM aktiv
7083 RCM_PANIC_ALARM_3TIMES aktiv
7083 UGDO_COUNTRY USA
7083 VAM_CCM_COOLANT_TEMP aktiv
7083 WW_FRONTWASCHEN_VIA_SRA_OUTPUT aktiv

2) I edited my FA Typecode to ECE, VO Coded BDC_BODY and FDL Coded the parameters I noted in 1) back to the US values.

3) I then added back my BDC Cheat Codes and custom FDL Coding.

Guess what... it worked.... Brake lamps are no long functioning as turn-signals and the rest of the tail lamps (parking, turn, back-up) appear to function properly in both outer and inner assemblies.

I still need to test brakeforce (I want all three brake lamps to flash). FYI, my tail lights did not come with LED ICs soldered onto the Fog lamp PCB.

Please note in my experience, the brightness/lumenous output for turn-signals and parking lamps are lower for ECE than NA so these lamps in the rear will not be as bright as the fronts unless you follow greekcs' method for side-marker delete.

Edit: Tested brakeforce when it got dark outside. Brakeforce appears to be working properly i.e. all 3 brake lamps are blinking.

Larry

I would really like to do this. I mess around a little with BimmerCode but this is over my head and can't find many of the parameters you mention. Can this be done via BimmerCode or remote coding?

Thanks for all the awesome info. Very nice of you to take the time to do this.

I am sure it can be remote coded. Perhaps reach-out to one of the members that offer remote coding as a service.

A right-side inner from a RHD vehicle e.g. UK - https://www.ebay.ca/itm/BMW-3-SERIES...torefresh=true

Complete set on ebay that appear to have fogs in both inners - https://www.ebay.ca/itm/BMW-3-SERIES...wAAOSw93pe-wgZ

FYI, you will need to code BDC_BODY so that both left and right rear fogs wires are energized ie. both rear fog solid-state relays (transistors) are turned on. A quick analysis suggest modifying the werte for CAFD 5665

When you swapped to the ECE headlight switch, did it look like the US blanks would be easy to pop out like on the E/F series? I'd love to mod them for some custom hidden functions.

First thing I did after I installed the ECE tail lights was to see if I could modify the NA light switch. The G20 light switch does not have blanks that can be popped out so not possible.

I wonder if this will ever become doable with Bimmercode?

I'd hate to go through all the hassle with ESYS just for this.

I think in 'Expert' it's available in Bimmercode.

Hi Folks,
Is anyone here familiar with the rear outer tail light on the 340I? I have a faulty signal. I've removed the housing but can see an obvious way to replace the bulbs? Does anyone know? Link to the part below

Bumping this up to see if anyone has been sucessful with either remote coding or with Bimmer code. (I wonder if Bimmercode updated their software to make necessary changes)

The way the tails function is pretty much the only thing I hate on this car.

Today I've tested some settings in Bimmercode and I think that solution is in LIC_VERSION_DATA
I've tried UNK_PARAM_28. The result was stop lights off with blinkers, but get hyper flashing
Then I've tested UNK_PARAM_22, result: stop light no blinking, no hyper flash, but only outer lamps works
So I'm still looking...
