330i Low Coolant Level Warning

Hey guys,

Just wanted to inform everyone that after 60,000km's in my 2019 BMW G20 330i xDrive, I've finally experienced a warning code coming from the engine, saying Coolant Level Low. It has been a tough couple of weeks for my car, driving not only in hot weather but also breaking 180+km/h very often, maybe a couple of times a day to a few times a week, consecutively for the last 3 weeks.

If you guys have read my other posts, my car is currently Stage 2 tuned on Bootmod3 93 OCT AGG map.

Anyhow, I checked the coolant reservoir and it was indeed low (and VERY HOT, made a steaming sound when I popped the lid), so topped it up to the MAX point indicator inside the tank. The error warning has gone away since and hasn't happened for the last 60,000km's, until now.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

EDIT: Just for those that are going to ask this question, there are no leaks. I checked when the warning came up, and I check very often every now and then.

I've gotten the coolant low message in the dead winter on my F30 340i. Dealership topped it off and I had no issue in the following year and a half I had the car. Apparently no big issue as there's a chance it'll come from factory with low fluids and the dealership forgot to top it off before delivery. If it's not reoccurring, you're fine.

Maybe there's been some air in the cooling system.

No, I think any will work. I just used some from my local gas station because it happened while I was out on a cruise so it was my only option.

Make sure you don't have a leak . I had to replace parts with coolant at dealer after 12k miles

The older F30 with the N20 engine had issues with leaks/cracks with the thermostat housing. That shouldn’t carry over to the new engine, but the symptoms sound similar.

Just don't mix different types of coolant, that can get really nasty.
Some types just don't blend, they can instead clog up your radiator.
The color on the other hand doesn't mean a thing except perhaps from an aesthetic point of view

For around 2 weeks, my fan would go on, after I shut the car down. I didn't get any warning lights, but when I checked the coolant tank, it was low, so I topped it off with concentrated coolant. I'm not sure why these cars are designed so that the low coolant warning light doesn't go on, until the coolant level is nearly empty.
