What changes do you think will come to the M340i for MY2021? Are you waiting?

I'm waiting for the 2021 for the following reasons:
  • I simply wont buy another first year BMW (twice and both times had issues)
  • Interior/Exterior color availability (looking for at a minimum red interior)
  • MSport port installed (or otherwise) parts availability should be caught up
  • Aftermarket will have had a year+ with the car if there is something I want to do relative to suspension, cosmetics etc...things should be sorted out by then
There are a couple of mine. That said, jealous of you guys that are already rolling around in your M340's enjoy!

Anyone else waiting? If so why (other than your lease isn't up until then)? :-)

Moderator Note: This is not a "wish-list" thread. The idea is to keep in perspective what types of changes happened in early model years of past BMW models, and discuss whether those or other plausible updates make sense in the context of the G20 M340i.

The car is great as is, no need to wait unless you don't like buying first model year. Even the grill is honestly not bad in person IMO. I doubt anything (especially engine or tune) will change for at least a few years.

I do not understand this thread.

M340 Just came out. It is arguably the best car BMW makes at the moment. It is pretty much an M3 with slightly less powerful engine.

It is ahead of its time and technology.

It has brand new tech (self driving assisted Pro, remote key, 3d view , self parking , self back up, digital key, full screen apple play etc,). Only 3 cars have it now, x5/x7, LCi 750 and 3 series.
It has new engine rated at 382HP, bus surely feels like 400 +

It looks great and aggressive with the new grill - it stands out and makes it look different from 330. Besides, if the 4 series (including M3) grill is as ugly as the renders show - 340 is going to be the best looking 3 series of the bunch.

It is a 2020 model that came out in April of 2019. Ahead of any 2020 models. (3 months before august - scheduled 2020 switch). what 2021 are you talking about? (ask us next August 2020 in 14 months)

While I know these are not "2021" items but rather post July/19 order items I am looking forward to the availability of Frozen Dark Gray paint and both the red and blue interior options. Drive recorder will be interesting as well.

Not sure if any of the aforementioned will be part of my 2021 order but given my current car is MG/Red I imagine if the price is not exorbitant, one or two will probably find their way onto my order sheet.

2020 M340s hit the BMW configurator in March 2019 right?

July 2019 = added exterior/interior options as well as a tech upgrade

March 2020 should be the 2021 availability I would assume?

Usually 3 series change model year in July. The M340 was supposed to be available in the summer, but BMW accelerated it's availability (likely due to competition). That said, I believe some models in recent years have been refreshed earlier than July (in the Spring), so we won't really know until BMW releases their production schedules.

Well, it wasn't the equivalent of a 2021 change, but I was just about ready to order an '07 335i, but I waited a couple of months, and they added a couple of colors, and, if I remember correctly, I think there were a couple of technical details too. I'm waiting a few more months & hoping for a 2020.5, (with some ironed out bugs). And I wouldn't mind some decent leather and maybe a color or two.

Yes. I’m waiting as well for all of those reasons. Hopefully we get a return of the glacier silver color and an extended shadow line package. I also suspect we’ll get the 48 volt electric system before the lci.

I’m actually likely waiting 2-4 years though as I bought out my ‘16 f30 lease so I will likely be underwater on the loan for a bit.

Also. I had a ‘13 f30 and a ‘16 f30 lci. The overall quality of the MY16 car was light years ahead of the original car. BMW seems to slip in small fixes and revisions each year. Cumulatively, they add up to a lot.

Life's full of compromises. As I've gotten older, I've learned to be more patient and a bit less reactive. Also, this is a pretty well informed forum that knows how BMW does things.

Adding things like extended shadowline trim will happen sooner rather than later. Merino leather interior may happen if BMW North America decides to bring a more upscale environment "down" to the 3 (they've been moving the 3 and 4 further apart and have been keeping things like Merino exclusive to the 4/X4 world). A 48 volt electric system goes to the core of the car's architecture. I wouldn't expect it before the LCI and very much doubt it will happen in this gen at any all. Adding back an old color is highly questionable to me. When BMW adds a color, it tends to be something new.

I wonder if they will offer the G20 in a red color? So far no red colors but I'm also wondering if it would even look good on a G20?

Oops...Never mind. I see it is offered in red.

I picked up my M340i in Tanzanite Blue II with Oyster leather interior. The one thing I miss which I had on my 2015 335i is the manual side sunshades for the rear passengers and the motorized rear window sunshade. Even though I have had the windows tinted, it is still too hot. It was nice to have the option of additional shade when needed and it had the bonus of additional privacy when needed, too. Sunshades are not an option for the 2020 M340i in Canada.

M340i second iteration

I have driver the new M340i xdrive twice and really like the car. What i do not care for is the trim color around the grill, corner "air intakes" and mirror caps. I would much prefer black trim. I see there is an option to get the black kidney grill (looks like it reverts back to classic kidney style), but the black mirror caps and extended black trim appear to be non-US options. I am waiting to see if the ability to further customize trim gets added in a later production iteration (or 2021).
Who else would prefer black mirror caps?
