uh... isn't that actually more versions per chassis .... 2^3 = 8

with the setup that is rumored.. its base or comp, AWD or RWD.
4 types

+ pure X manual/auto RWD = 2 more.

thats 6 types.

We don't need a pure model.. make it easy. You pick either base or comp and what transmission and what drive type. It's just simpler.

Me too, most exciting news. Better looking M3 with more cargo space. I am fine trading that for the extra weight.

Plenty of power for stock. Add in some nice suspension bits and lose some weight, I'd drive this. Skipped f8x for a reason.
Why would you wish that on anyone?

As long as we can get the same upgrades (Laser lights, infotainment, interior, etc) as the regular and ZCP models, this is fine by me.

I thought they were letting us pick between 6MT/8AT, RWD/AWD for G80/G82 as per our insider(s)?

I don't understand why they say they can't offer the manual in the full power version.

The F10 M5 offered a manual and that car had over 500 ft/lbs.

Next generation M4 competition, CS, and CSL sound promising with the power increases.

No one would buy an M car with an NA 6 cylinder engine. There's a reason they went with a V8 for the E90 M3 and had to go twin turbos for the F80 M3. Even if you don't care about the power, most of the public buying these cars do. It'd be virtually impossible to make a relatively reliable production car with an N/A 6 cylinder motor making more than 350hp.

I think it's unlikely we'll ever see an NA straight 6 motor ever again in a new production car.

- we won't need to wait for Competition in M4 - there will be M3 Competition too, with 500hp.

The suggestion that S58 will use water injection... Let's just pretend they never said that, OK?

One important bit about motors: the engine in the entry model is not just a different tune, it's a different engine level (think about the difference between 320i and 330i: same foundation, but plenty of different parts that make it impossible to turn 20i into 30i with just a chip).
Any chance to see a G81 or it's already dead?

My guess is that the badge will look similar to a competition badge but say "pure" or whatever code name they officially use on release.

Not that I've heard but I have not driven one. The 8AT in my old M235i was surprisingly good. Far from a DCT but for a regular series car I didn't really have complaint. So I'm assuming the M-8AT will be a step up.

Putting "Pure" on as a badge would be completely defeating the purpose.

the only thing a DCT had going for it is " faster" - which is what the 8AT will do as well.

This is everyone's scenario they were asking for.. 6 speed purist car, and awd options that can handle power with auto. The zf 8 speed and 10 speed is now in every track car like zL1 and vette.. they say it is just as good or faster shifting then any dct... I like the dct but will still want a manual before I get to old to want to drive one anymore. I do think it's funny that everyone wants a v8 Manual.. the e90s are selling for 25k now, go get 3 of them for the price of the new m3

I'll will not flash tuning in the future.

There is zero market for a wagon M3, the upcoming X3M will fill this niche. Just pipe dreams.
The F80 is the first car I have ever owned for a considerable time that I did not tune.
Not sure I would want any more power for my taste.

Mcars now have so much power and torque, I personally think this is a non-issue. I will never buy an automatic, so take my viewpoint as an extreme one, possibly.

bye bye bmw. why force the base engine on us 6MT drivers? i don't care about rwd vs awd but basically forcing an automatic on us to get the higher rated engine is bunk. thank god for GT3s!

What? Someone should tell Cadillac, Ford, and Dodge.

And if it comes with navigation and goofy touchscreens, it's not Pure. Hoping to see those deleteable.
I want to know if the "M3 pure " will come in a 2 door only ..
Sure it will. It will be called the M2...

BMW should do a 6MT in the non-pure models, IMO.

I like the direction they are taking.
Hoping (Pure) has 18" and 19" wheel options.
No adaptive suspension.
Very much agree. Shame that MT plus RWD are the only pairings.

All these new variations will make it very hard to find the exact one you want on dealer lots since they stock very few Ms to begin with.
