Front Grill below number plate

Someone backed into the front of my car and their tow bar knocked my grill and cracked one of the holes. You wouldn't even notice it unless I pointed it out.

Insurance company sent me to a panel beater and they want to keep the car a whole week to fix it.

Is this really a whole week job to replace the plastic grill?

A week is a bit long, but if they need to remove the bumper then it's likely days. The amount of electronics / sensors to disconnect and reconnect on a relatively new car... That they probably have never worked on, will take time to not screw up.

Yeah, that is what they said. I now need to make a new appointment as I was expecting the car is done within the day.

I am hoping the gave me the worse case scenario

The radar is right there, is that damaged? If damaged it is mega $$$$ to replace. The B/bar has to be removed to replace the black insert .
I would want to take it to a BMW specialist so they know what they are doing when removing parts .

As it is not your fault and assuming you have the other drivers details they should supply you with a free car.

Only damage is the plastic has split on one of the holes.

You could search for the part number, order it and have a go at it yourself if the sensors are not damaged.

You won't believe it someone backed into the back of my car at the market, and again the person didn't stop. Again an eye witness came forward and gave me the rego number and the Police have contacted the person.

What is wrong with people being dishonest and thinking they can get away with it.

Now I have have to get the back bumper painted along with a new grill - very annoying

Super aggravating!!! Are you thinking your car is jinxed?
You’re only saving grace is that you can get both ends repaired at the same time. One week of pain instead of two.
You’re lucky a witness was kind enough to pass on the Rego of the driver. If he hadn’t be around………..
Maybe it’s time to activate Drive Recorder???

I am lucky as both times the drivers left the scene, and both times I came across the witnesses who had taken down the Rego numbers.

Without looking it up, how does driver recorder work?

I will do some investigation into it.

EDIT I found this video:

I don't think drive recorder would help because it doesn't record when the car isn't running??

This is a quote from BimmerTech.
The last paragraph suggests that a parking accident will be recorded on Drive Recorder once you put your car in reverse.
The key is…..
it is only after an accident gets detected by the crash sensors that the footage is saved.

Automatic recording
From the moment you enable camera recording, the BMW Drive Recorder will film unstoppably. However, it is only after an accident gets detected by the crash sensors that the footage is saved. The maximum length of recordings takes only up to 40 seconds – 20 before the accident happens and 20 after – which are the most relevant developments of the event. Taking such video later to court may help with accident reconstruction, and clarifying the cause or who’s guilty.

Many people also wonder whether the BMW Drive Recorder works in parking mode. Yes, it can do that. Once you put your car in reverse, the Parking View will be filmed and saved in case of car damage.

Well it turns out to fix the back bumper, the whole bumper has to be replaced. All I have literally is a couple of scratches, but BMW recommend not touch the bumper. It is a joke.
