Downsides to PPF, and where to apply it

Are there any downsides to PPF treatment? Im considering having the front bumper and full hood done so there are no visible lines. I found an installer in my area who quoted me $1300 for those two items.

I did not do this when new and should have. I took one rock chip right at the headlight and decided to do the hood and bumper. Glad I did. These cars are rock magnets. This is my 5th one and felt I was extremely lucky to have minimal damage after 7 months. Will not make that mistake again.

Downsides to PPF. Well. If the PPF is a bad quality one, it will yellow over time. Good PPF will not. And if you decide to sell your car to a dealership/online dealership or, if it's a lease, if you turn it back in, you won't get back what you spent on the PPF.

PPF is probably well worth it. I haven't ever had PPF on any of my cars and there are rock chips on all of them.

I have used Xpel Ultimate on quite a few of my car. I always got the full hood, front end, front fenders, headlights and mirrors. Excellent product. Only downside is that it isn't cheap. I have only had one person install mine and he always did a good job.

PPF did nothing to protect my paint from a quarter inch rock set loose from the tire of a horse trailer in front of me on the highway. Know two friends that also have had to remove the film and repaint. It's a good product but not at all a cure for all rock chips. Don't think I would spend the money again.

Yea definitely not meant to defeat every threat to the paint but it is certainly better than no protection. I keep my cars for many years so it might be a worthwhile cost.
