Turning off rear seatbelt reminders not being remembered…

I have an infuriating problem with my 2020 M340i whereby my preference to turn off the annoying seatbelt reminders for the rear seats is overridden when I restart the car plus the ability to untick the boxes is only available when the engine is off. Like the dumbing down of the exhaust, is this yet another example of BMW being forced into nanny state measures by the EU?

Probably more likely that BMW are good at making cars, terrible at software programming.

When passengers get in the back but don’t want to wear a seatbelt. When I first got the car it was possible to turn off the warning ch8mes and they would stay off (i.e. the boxes would remain unticked) even after restarting the car. Now, all the boxes appear ticked again after restarting and they are greyed out whilst the engine is running. The health and safety zealots seem to rule every aspect of our lives now!

Haha sorry thought there was another reason, not, my passengers want to break the law, it's all the fault of the EU and health and safety for not wanting us to die or kill the person in the front seat...😆

If my passengers don’t want to wear one and I’m prepared to take the risk (as we always did for decades), then it shouldn’t be anything to do with the authorities. I’m obviously a true libertarian and think government should be as small as possible (preferably no more than five men in a sh! &#128512.

I mean if you're happy for them to die and kill you or someone else in an accident when you could live for all the 'inconvenience' of wearing a seat belt then good luck!😆

Lots of things can kill you but, th fully, even this anti libertarian administration hasn’t banned them all yet!

By logical extension I assume you don’t think it should be law to wear a belt in the front either? Some of these anti-libertarian laws are to protect the persons whose job it is to clear up afterwards and also to protect idiots from themselves.

Taking the risk for decades is a facile argument- you could say that about drink driving until laws were introduced.

If passengers won't belt up in my car, sorry no ride.

I was in the safety business for a major part of my career. It is nothing to do with 'zealots', restraint in a car is common sense, to protect folks. We shouldn't need laws for such issues, it should be pretty obvious what is the right thing to do.

Have you seen what a 'body' can do as a projectile, moving through a car?

A rear seat passenger wearing a seatbelt doesn’t only protect themselves.

Yep, I have.

Have you seen the damage all sorts of things in everyday life do to people but are not banned?

We should all be allowed to make individual choices about our safety and health.

Should rock climbing, motorcycling, commercial fishing, hang gliding, skiing be banned or curtailed then?

Of course not but the risks are mitigated with safety equipment just as the risks in driving are mitigated by safety equipment. If you think seat belts and crash helmets should be optional then you're an idiot.

While seatbelts are required of all in my car, what about the scenario of having a car seat with an isofix base - will this then set off the alerts?

Can't try it out myself yet I'm afraid, my G20 is being delivered in 2 sleeps!

So a rear seat passenger should have the right to kill a front seat passenger by virtue of their mass flying through the car to kill the passenger in the front because they chose not to wear a seatbelt?

Both my rear seats have isofix car seats and neither set it off when empty so I doubt an isofix base would either, guess it has to be a certain weight!

Not that I would want to, but I can't even see a setting to disable the alarms in the first place.

Garage List
You can get the seatbelt chimes & warnings for both front and rear passengers coded out. The coding will be wiped after an OTA update though so be warned. I had a load of coding done on my 330e like video in motion etc.

Unfortunately the latest update wiped it. I however did not go for the seatbelt chime delete!

Lots and lots of options for coding. I used Zed coding, think he was recommended off here.

I coded my F31 myself using E-Sys but I turned off video in motion because even for passenger use it was very distracting. I also wondered if you'd be in trouble if somebody saw you and reported you? I saw a case of a lorry driver prosecuted for having an iPad on his dash showing a film which sounds pretty stupid but no different to video in motion on the iDrive. I wonder if you were seen / reported / had accident and then it was shown you circumvented a manufacturer's safety control what would happen?
