Thanks for the report, one last question, did you see in instrument cluster or idrive notification area, any error or message suggesting a VIP ecu error?
Is possible that here we're having exactly this issue without noticing it (no visible error or message) |

Just got to the service centre for an oil change since that was the only thing the car needed.
They read the key and apparently car asked for a rear brake pad change. Checked it out and pads were almost worn out. Car is at 13.8k miles at the moment. Pad life clearly sucks since I have other cars I drive harder with more mileage and zero brake pad issues.

I just picked up a M340i MPE and so I hope that's not the case. I just returned a 17 440i MPPSK with over 44,000km and never had to change the pads or rotors. Rears we're still at 7mm.

Same. Sold my X3 at 35k miles and dealer asked of I never use the brakes since pads were like new. And this dealer said it's not the first G20 with this issue. He's seen many come in with the same complaints (premature pad wear).

Problem seems to be too much size disparity between front and rear pads.
We are starting to see 2021+ M3/4 guys going trough a rear pad set in a day or two of track work..

There is a SIB 34 03 20 bulletin about non M brakes - check it.
This also explains why M brakes owners have no issues. https://www.tsbsearch.com/BMW/SI-B34-03-20

The attached .pdf file in my original post should be enough - it is the official BMW document

Nope. Mine was discovered when the service advisor did a key read. Car apparently said rear pads were worn and needed to be replaced. Nothing on the idrive indicating that.

My 2018 just had this rear brake wear issue.
Dealer replaced both rear calipers, pads and discs - @ 15500 miles and about 3 months out of warranty. Invoice cost was around £1200 GBP. |

Sounds like driver error or TC doing it’s job. I don’t believe it’s BMW error.
