sorry but i been reading lot of mixed answers about the exhaust situation.

I order my 21 M340 and it should be here by December cuz I was not in a rush to get it right away.
so does this also affect the North America Market with exhaust? also when you build your own vehicle i do not see option to add the M performance exhaust. Does it mean North America market get it standard M performance exhaust?

please answer only if u are in USA and have one 21 m340

thank you

The M Performance Exhaust is an option that can be added to your order (its not found on the configuration online) - otherwise you'll get the default exhaust that comes with the m340i. I ordered a '21 m340i back in Sept - and my CA added the MPE to the order (so it'll be installed at port)

Other threads on this forum have positive things to say when it comes to pop/burbles with the MPE installed.

yes I believe your CA can modify your existing order to add in the MPE for around $1600-2000 (from what I've seen on this forum)

For my 2-cents I don't think the MPE exhaust is going deliver the 2020 pops/burbles people are after here. The pops/burbles are really a function of engine tuning and not the exhaust.

Also the stock M340 exhaust is already dual piped from the downpipe back and is non-resonated. The MPE "exhaust" (unlike on the 340 F30 - which eliminated the two resonators) is really just a muffler. And a muffler alone is not going to give you pops/burbles. You will get a more aggressive exhaust note and it will be louder for sure - but an MPE muffler is not going to change a 2021 into sounding like a early 2020 car. Only a flash tune will do that.

Don't get my wrong I think the MPE muffler is wonderful and delivers a nice tone - just don't think it is the solution to missing pops/burbles if that's what you are after.

Can confirm my 2021 with the hybrid system has virtually no loud pops or burbles. Only on sport plus second gear after I rev it hard up to 3k rpm I can hear 1 or 2 pops but not loud. Downshifting gets 0 pops. Very disappointing.

There seems to be no consistency amongst the 21 MY vehicles in the US. Maybe they'll be an answer soon if enough people reach out to BMW NA.

Mine pops and bangs and sounds like gun shots sometimes on downshifts w the Dinan. But the exhaust note even without the burbles sounds really good IMO. Not a total loss at least

Is this maybe related to manufacturing location (Germany vs. Mexico)?

No because ‘21s have only been built in Mexico for North America until next year at least.

I will just wait and hear the original and worst case I will just buy it and do it my self if I want to upgrade since everyone has different thoughts and opinions about this. it's crazy that no one has a video and compare the m340 stock and m performance. but everyone has a saying of it just my opinion

There is actually a thread on here comparing the two exhausts with sound clips. Can also find sound clips on YouTube.

As for the pops and bangs, this has nothing to do with the exhaust other than being louder. This is something that the car has to be tuned for. Looks like they no longer tune it the same as the 2020s.

Does anyone definitively know when Munich switched over to the 48V MHEV models produced in Germany - am hearing conflicting reports it was August but some are saying only from November ?

I believe Mexico switched over some time ago so NA models have the hybrid tech.

My build week was 2020 09 40 (so am guessing very end of September) and VIN starts with WBA as all our models come from Germany/Bremerhaven port of exit.

It seems to be a case of MY21 without 48V and without OPF (no OPF for our market) gets the superlative exhaust note with burbles, while MY21 with the switch over does not but benefits from eBoost and much smoother ASS.

Local dealer seems clueless.
My 2019/2020 M340i was built late September in Munich.

I know for a fact there were zero build slots left when I ordered, my dealer managed to get a spare individual build slot from another dealer and was surprised the factory didn't cancel it.
