That fuse doesn't exist from what I've seen. I checked, it's not a thing with this car and doesn't apply to "every" BMW.

Literally cannot find proof of it anywhere else. So the answer is no, hasn't been done. Haha.

U.K. spec M340i’s have run flats but, in line with the long standing “gentleman’s agreement” German car manufacturers have in place, cars are limited (like most German cars) to 155mph / 250kph.

Unfortunately doesn't fly here. speed is limited based off the safety limits of the tire ratings, so we're screwed in the US without having prior knowledge of that being a thing.

Limiter Options?

I am not sure what is happening in the US but here in Germany my 2021 M340i xDrive with 19 inch runflats is able to go faster than I am comfortable driving. I had it out on an autobahn heading to Frankfurt doing 290 kph (180 mph). Sure it arrived at my dealership as their demonstrator (I bought it before it even was registered to go on any roads), so likely any limiters have been raised or deactivated by the factory to show off the car to prospective buyers.

Honestly I would never have bought the car if the limiter was set so low.

We don’t have government mandated speed limiters on cars or bike in the U.K. However, some foolish manufacturers (e.g. Volvo) are introducing limiters but everyone I know in England is refusing to buy such cars firstly because of the ridiculously low limit imposed (112mph!) but also because it is Chinese owned!

Interesting

After watching Jeremy Clarkson rail against limiters for years on Top Gear I was under the impression that it was just some Torrey plot to ruin everyone's fun. (I am not British so I probably am offending some people who actually understand the gibberish I just wrote). I would not buy a Volvo simply because they were the first semi-major brand to announce full electrification, and electric cars are not real cars. They are golf carts on steroids. Real cars make popping sounds when the accelerator is pushed, and do not have a recorded soundtrack to pretend they have grunt. Just like fake tofu-meat substitutes, they are made to taste like meat because meat is amazing. Internal combustion is awesome and that is why some electrics wear internal combustion audio masks.

As an American who has come to Germany to be liberated from the oppression known as speed limits, I wonder what the purpose of installing any limiters actually is. Every car in almost every country has a "proverbial limiter". The limit is how fat your wallet is and how thin you want it to get while paying for speeding tickets. Simple. Demand for speed balanced against supply of money. Simple economics.....

A lot of it comes down to safety. Not every tire can go that fast, most people don't have reaction times good enough at those speeds, and likely also longevity of the motors. Don't have to like it, just saying that's likely how it is.

You're right about one this though, if you want to go faster, it's about how much you faster your wallet can handle.

Tune is the only solution if your ECU is unlockable. '21 ECU tuning looks to be coming in the near future based off of what Mission Performance has announced, but yeah. Only way to change the vmax(?) value.

It's such major bullshit that they don't overtly inform you of the 130 limiter when getting all seasons.

It's a fkin M car.

I don't care about the police, everyone speeds past 130 once in a while.

Complete crap.

I find this weird because my car came with continental contisportcontact ssr performance tires. Rated Y (186mph) and im still limited to 130mph

Has anyone thought about coding this out? If I remember correctly, I had EDC on my F30 335i which needed to be coded out when I had coilovers installed. The coding guy went into the vehicle options and removed my EDC as if it came from the factory without it so it wouldn’t throw an error code.

It's not about the tires specifically, there's a wheel+tire package that includes the increased speed limiter.

Only way to "code" it out is a tune, which most newer 21 DME's aren't doable right now (until Mission Performance releases theirs).

Damn, thought we might get lucky with the VO coding...

If u buy this from a bmw dealer after taking delivery, will they then increase the speed limit?

To my knowledge, no. I asked 2 days after I found out, they said it couldn't be done. Despite a couple posts around here saying that it's possible under < x miles or something. Must be set at factory and prior to delivery.

There's no way it's not possible and I especially dont get what difference the milage would make. Flash tunes like mhd or bm3 just have a box to tick when ur flashing or reflashing the car, and u can then have the vmax removed in under a minute. It's a money grab, that's why they sell packages and not individual options anymore.

It's straight up BS, a lowly Lexus IS200T with less than 250 hp has higher limiter. BMW screwed us plain and simple; a car of this caliber should be 155mph at the very minimum since this motor has far higher speed limit thresholds. Nobody else offers low limit in the USA. All the direct competitors cars have higher speed limits. Had I know this before hand I would not have gotten my car off the lot. 130mph comes on in mere seconds in this car without barely any fanfare or reasons for anybody not under the influence to lose control provided the environmental conditions are not a deterrent.

Why don't u contact mission performance and ask how much to just remove the speed limit? My understanding, is that he freezes the flash counter, and they check for a tune to see if ur car is performing more than it should, so i doubt they would or could tell if u no longer have a vmax.
Obviously check into this first as I'm no expert, but if its that big of a deal for u, a couple of hundred bucks is still cheaper than the tire package u would have had to buy before and now u would have no limit.
