Obviously check into this first as I'm no expert, but if its that big of a deal for u, a couple of hundred bucks is still cheaper than the tire package u would have had to buy before and now u would have no limit.
If you read the MP thread, he clearly states that BMW will know you changed things even though the flash counter is frozen. They can tell based on what the car has done (which is recorded). If you have exceeded 130 and the car is limited, they know you messed with it and risk having warranty denied.

Not sure if it has to do with mine being an early MY20 build and a previous dealer loaner, but I know I've been up to 146 in my m340i.🤷🏼

My understanding is tho, they have to prove what u did caused the issue. Your right, u would risk the warranty, but if the car is stock and they see u went over 130, within reason, it shouldn't void the drivertrain warranty, depends more on how u were driving. It's not an issue for me, but some ppl here really seem to want it badly, so merely suggesting a way that might help.

All the direct competitors cars have higher speed limits. Had I know this before hand I would not have gotten my car off the lot. 130mph comes on in mere seconds in this car without barely any fanfare or reasons for anybody not under the influence to lose control provided the environmental conditions are not a deterrent.
FYI - There are other manufacturers that have speed limiters outside of BMW, however to your point the M340i badged as is with the motor that it has is a bit of a slap in the face. My IS350 AWD I used to have for example was limited at 131mph. But there are others out there that would exceed 145mph. YMMV. It's not a BMW only issue, however it is something that is easily codable and should be an option/feature you just enable on the car.

Mine (Uk car 2021) certainly goes to 140mph with no indication it's going to stop accelerating.

It's a safety thing with the tire ratings. So if you can buy a lower speed tire in your market it's likely not a US only thing. If other markets only sell a staggered setup or high performance tire (or non run flat) then yeah it's only a US thing.

Many big tuning brands shut off this tracking so that BMW can not track the car. This results in the shut off of the remote start and other features that require BMW to track your car. With the speed limiter off ive seen a stage 2 m340 hit around 173 with plenty more to go in her.

Welcome to 2023!
Any updates or headway on removing the top speed limiter on RFT cars without cracking the DME (still not possible on '21+...)

Mexico highway runs are getting lame

Thereīs an option to code out the max speed limit in the first 10 operating hours.
You just need something like Bimmerutility, read the DME, change VMAX to 330 kmh and write it back to the DME.
Yes it really works and itīs no a myth.

After the 10 operating hours you can only remove the speed limit with an unlock of the DME and usage of a tune like MHD, MG Flasher or bm3.

Can BMW track this? YES.
The car writes everything thatīs outside of the normal operating into FASTA data. This is an offline storage of data collected by the car.
Once you exceed the normal speed limit of your car it will be written into FASTA.
This data will be downloaded in the background once connected to ISTA at the BMW dealer. The dealer doesnīt know this and wont see it, but BMW will see it.
Once you come into the dealer with an engine related issue the dealer will request the repair at BMW and theyīll refuse it.
Itīs not a total yes or no because the issue would need to be related to the exceeded speed limit. But be sure that this will have an impact.

I’ve seen a couple ppl where they hit 160 speed but the top of their gauge still is 160.

Also is if the wheel an tire package that determines the speed limiter or the ZTK package ?

Or is the ZTK what increases the top speed in the gauge and the increased limiter from wheel package is what increases the actual limiter ?

This can easily be coded ;-)
I donīt think itīs an option of BMW in the G20.
