I went in for service today and all the service guys and techs saw my carbon steering wheel and know where I was gonna do with my car.

My service advisor and I was talking he knew I wanted to tune my 21 m340 once it's able to be tuned. I asked him if I can opt out on updates on the car and he let it slide.

There's also a service recall on the DSC module and I also asked him if I can opt out of that as well since it would require an update and he let that slide too.

I mean if your service advisor is cool I'm sure you can request to opt out of software upgrades like I did.

Hey There. I had a defective DSC that needed to be replaced on a brand new car. The dealer had it for a month, I just got it back this pass Wednesday (did a posting on the forum about that). Didn't know there was a recall on the DSC. You might want to reconsider that service recall on the DSC. Just a thought.

From what my guy told me at Brooklyn it wasn't a defect, it was a software upgrade. He said that if it was a serious issue on the paperwork it would show "stop" and it would have to be done.

Sorry for the confusion in words

Exactly this. I enjoy a great relationship with the service manager at my local dealership. When I was in for my first oil change I asked them not to plug me into the mothership.
I've made them aware that I don't want to lose any of the current exhaust note characteristics. So they are totally ok with it.
The only time it will every be updated is when I'm trading it in or if something electronic breaks and they HAVE to plug in to properly diagnose or repair.

The only reason I didn't actually, was I had an appointment to have my car filmed for an exhaust install, so just to play it safe I skipped it and it expired the day befote I took it in.

I put a giant sign in my center screen saying do not update any software AT ALL. they didn't seem to mind.

I'm the 2019 stock stuff and I love how it sounds, don't want to lose any of it.

Forgive me for going off topic dude but I just placed an order for a 21 and found out that unlike the 2020s, the 2021s are assembled in Mexico. Any idea why and whether that changes the overall quality of the vehicle?

It's just a corporate decision or source of parts.

I mean I have a 21 m340 and the quality feels great still. Any problems of course you have the warranty on the car itself. The only problem I really had with mine was the sunroof or headliner creaking.

God, that's incredibly annoying considering the amount we pay for these friggin cars man; warranty or no warranty

I honestly had zero concern about it being built in Mexico. This is my 3rd BMW with my last two being built in Germany. So far can't notice a single difference in quality.

So what are these updates actually doing apart from annoying lovers of exhaust notes?

Ok, thanks for your input man. Gives me a little more peace of mind i guess lol. I'm also reading a lot of people with 2020 models eventually got tired of the burbles and pops although i'm not sure i would've ever gotten tired of them but i've already decided to get the Dinan exhaust when it becomes available again anyway

There's another thread about it providing for new more enhanced drive modes.

https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1836654

AFAIK, that's about it but also makes the exhaust a little more drone-y which apparently is more along the lines of it's natural sound based on the way it's cammed. I read somewhere that the burbles and pops are artificially coded into the software. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that but I'm pretty sure I read that on another thread

They are added, if you get a flash tune like bm3 or mhd you can remove or adjust the burblea as much as you'd like.

Lol are you ready to cut your exhaust?

If it's a lease it's sorta a headache and that's why I went with the awe track.

That's good to hear. I might sell my AWE soon and go for a Fi exhaust in the near future but it's bread.

I'm not too sure how the financing would sound since it's hard to justify sound in video clips. Would be great to compare in person
