Why is eBoost so inconsistent?
Seems very inconsistent even with battery level nearly full. Sometimes it won’t engage at all and sometimes it will engage just above half throttle. Does anyone have any advice or tips to get eBoost to engage?

I’m not sure if this is the case for your situation. The battery is hooked up to the cooling system to keep temps down. If it gets too high (over 60C) the system will limit the power from the battery. It has a range of voltage 38volts to 53volts. So, that quick burst could be even less of a factor with higher temps.

The lack of documentation on eBoost is rather strange. I have found you can only see if its using eBoost if you are viewing your drive mode on the dash. Regardless its a 10hp motor its not going to do much in the grand scheme of things

I also wonder about this. A "genius" says repeatedly in a video "40hp" boost. Could it be possible in a short overdrive for those 10 seconds he mention?
For acceleration other than the first movement from standstill it's POWER that is required to accelerate at speed. If power is limited, so is the force (torque). So the question is, is also "E-boost" limited to 8kW? |

I hate to ask, but can you share a pic? <nvm - the power of the internet is strong today... </>
I've never seen such a thing appear, so now I'm wondering if my car isn't working correctly for some reason 🤔 Last edited by fcbrandon; 08-23-2021 at 02:36 PM.. Reason: Found a pic! |

Yep, that's what I see. I tried finding a pic of it when I made the post, but my Google Fu was too weak.

How about how the reverse of eboost works when it’s decelerating?
I ran my 2021 M340i in eco mode during a recent long highway trip, and was surprised to see the tach drop to zero a couple times when I dropped off on the throttle for exits or traffic slowdowns. The first time I thought I was reading the tach in correctly, but then it happened a few more times. The zero rpm period was very short, so I’m not sure of the benefit. |

The inverse of eBoost would be charging. With gear in 'D' and n Adaptive, Comfort and (apparently ecoPro) modes the car choose between charging and freewheeling. The decision is based on charge level and front sensors (closing in on another car) and navigation data (coming up to a roundabout etc).
The breaking is probably limited to the said 8kW so comparable to engine breaking in a fairly high gear. At least in Adaptive and Comfort (haven't tried ecoPro) I can override the sailing and force charging with a paddle downshift (or breaking). In one of the Sport modes I don't think it ever chooses to sail. Also in a cruise control mode I don't think it sails. |

About the observation that "eBoost" is not showing on the "Drive" display at every hard acceleration it seems to me that it more often shows in Adaptive (or Comfort) modes than in Sport+.
Could it be that the car decides that at higher revs there is not much to gain (or requires a too high voltage) to drive the "MHEV motor"? Another parameter could be the charge level in the MHEV battery, but I have seen (in the drive train display, or whatever it's called) that also 2 charge bars is enough to get "eBoost"). Although I can't say that my butt dyno can feel any difference. |

Does the battery need full power to enter eboost?? I have noticed in the power display mode of the sport displays that the battery discharges very fast--then recharges when coasting or braking. I have never seen it on 5 bars (full charge).

I have found that pulling (and holding) the left shift paddle on the steering wheel, then simultaneously flooring the throttle, will produce eboost every time.
Relying on throttle input alone, seems is subject to more activation parameters and checks, making it kind of inconsistent. Hybrid battery charge too low or too hot will prevent eboost alot of times when you just dig into the throttle by itself. |

This is so weird. Has anyone noticed their gauges lighting up under certain amount of throttle? like maybe 75%+

Seems to do it 90% of the time when throttle is ≥75%.
