Maps 2021-3 update available for Europe

Avaliable since a few days ago through manual update.

EDIT: It seems this is not available in the US, check whether you have included or can buy the Map Update Package on Connected Drive (See image below)

I’ve yet to get any map updates pop up on my car in the 5 months I’ve owned it. Is there something special you need to do for these?

I've never received one OTA either, I just download and install them manually.

Don't wait - download manually the update on an USB flash and update - same as what eddiehaug recommended.

I can confirm 2021-3 update is available in Europe too.

How do you download them manually?

In your Connected Drive Account, with a valid USB Map Update subscription (came prepaid with my car for 3 years).
From the web page you download a BMW Download Manager to your computer, which then handles the download for your VIN.

Hmm, wonder if this is the case for the US. I don't see anything in ConnectedDrive for this.

Here you have both versions. Install the one that applies to your system and log in with your Connected Drive account. If you have paid for a USB Update subscription (or if it came included with your car), you will be able to download the software into a USB device and install it in your car.

https://rsu.bmw.de/dlm/release/BMWDo...64-offline.dmg

https://rsu.bmw.de/dlm/release/BMWDo...32-offline.exe

You will need a USB stick with 64GB formatted in ExFAT.

Hang about, I downloaded onto a stick but if I havent bought a poxy subscription, I cant update the maps this way?!

Cancel rang, it looks like I have this but the stick I downloaded to is only 32gb and it doesnt work. Must it be 64Gb only, then? To be fair, they do say you need 64Gb so

Yes, you actually need a bit more than 32, but that doesn't exist, so 64 it is.

And yes, you need the USB Map Update subs to be able to download the update in the first place.

Tried exfat and NTFS with successful downloads with both and neither have worked.
The stick is recognised in media no worries and plays music when theres music on it, but I took all the music off and reformatted to try again.

Still nothing!

Any ideas from the floor, please?!

I assume you also tried to be cleaver by using an external HDD? That doesn’t work. When you plugin the external HDD into the USB port of the car nothing will happen/ car won’t recognize your HDD. It only works via a USB flashdrive, 64GB. It has to be formatted as FAT32 or EXFAT. It will take quite some time (90 minutes approx.) to get it onto your USB device. Installation in the car will take about 20 minutes.

Note: this type of mapupdate only works for European navigation cards. Others do work via OTA. Best approach to check if cards are available is by logging in with your BMW account on the BMW download manager portal.

Hi,

No i didn't try to be clever as I'm thick as mince! I used a Sandisk Cruzerfit 64Gb USB and neither formats you've mentioned worked for me at all.
The full download is for my VIN and downloads just fine, so there must be something else wrong.

The file downloads to a temp folder on the usb, and its just one file that isn't recognised by my machine.

Does anyone make any other adjustments or anything else?

I think I know what your issue is. Try the following:

1. Download the file to your desktop (mac or Windows)

2. Extract the contents of the file. You will get a folder with files inside.

3. Make sure you have a completely empty USB drive formatted in Exfat.

4. Copy the CONTENT of the folder you extracted in step 2. DO NOT copy the folder itself, just the files inside the folder into the completely empty USB stick.

5. Connect the USB stick to the USB port under the arm rest.

6. If you don't see a pop up on the infotainment screen, initiate the update from Nav-->Settings

Let us know how it goes.

My instructions when downloading told me that the temporary file must not be put on the USB stick. Point the temporary file somewhere other than the USB stick.
(I have used both EXFAT and NTFS. As soon as I connected the USB stick, I used the USB-C port under armrest, it was detected by the iDrive Navigator and suggested installation.)

Ha, so I don't have a drive that the maps can downloaded to as the format isn't the suitable type, and they're all (of course) full of enough stuff that its going to be a pain to move stuff around! This is bigger than Ben frickin' Hur!

Can you use 2 large USB sticks, maybe? One for the temporary storage and one for the transfer to the car? Formatting both in NTFS or EXFAT should make it work.

I'd like to hope that was possible, but I only seem to receive one file, so I'd guess no
