Does the downloader let you point the temporary storage to one of the USB sticks and then the final transfer to the other?

Don't you have a computer, Mac or Win? Just download to the desktop, unpack the file, and copy the the contents of the folder over to the USB stick.

The thumbdrive must be formatted in Exfat.

From what I understod, he is size limited for the temporary storage.
(Time for a USB HDD then for the temporary storage, provided 2 USB ports are available.)
Either NTFS or EXFAT can be used (I have used both).

Hey guys, I am new to the forum. I am downloading the new update. After it validates, I am left with this white box and I am stuck what to do now.
I have downloaded the map and validated it about a dozen times, but still get the same screen. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

For the future, since this is a multinational board, please put EUROPE in the header as to avoid a ton of confusion.

Did you connect a USB stick (as the last sentence on the screen advisees)? I don't remember if I had to click on the box to have the USB stick show up, but you are supposed to select the destination in that box and click Save Data.
(Note: My map data is called Europe Live ...)

I ended up buying a new €8 64gb usb stick off Amazon 2 weeks back. Worked straight away. Plugged into USB port by the cup holders. Would post a link to it, but just seen it's now €40

Done. Not that Americans care about indicating something is specific for the US anyway, but I get your point.

Haha yeah, as in download plug and play worked as it should…was windows too

Thanks, yes I did. The weird thing is, it won't let me select a destination. If you look at the screenshot, the box is completely white with no option to select a destination/USB stick.

Unlucky..., My instructions were explicit which said to point the temporary download folder NOT to the USB stick that will be used in the car. Step 2, after validating the temporary download it asked me to point out the USB stick to transfer the download to.

Can you open the (empty) USB stick from the computer so that you know it is detected correctly?
Is the USB stick formated in either NTFS or EXFAT?
Is it large enough?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The instructions was from BMW to not point the temporary storage to the stick. (Don't remember if it was from the web page or the download app.)
I don't know the reason, but perhaps it could work if you create a "temp" folder on a stick that is large enough to hold both the temporary and the final product (so about the double size).

1. Click on Select Folder and point it to your desktop as a Temp location.
2. When it finishes downloading the files and asks you to insert a USB drive, simply cancel.

3. Unzip the file and you'll get a folder.
4. Copy the files inside that folder into an empty USB drive.

5. Connect the thumb drive to the USB port under the arm rest (though maybe the one beside the cup holders works as well, I don't know).

6. Accept the prompt on iDrive to start updating the maps.

Yeah its a 64gb Sandisk USB stick. It's empty and picks up fine. Formatted to exFat. I tried NTFS too.
So basically, is the box is white simply because it cannot detect a USB? Could it be, even though my USB stick works, the BMW software can't pick it up maybe?

Wow, thank you so much. So simple and it worked first time. I have taken my car into BMW twice now for them to update my maps. I wonder how many folk have been in my shoes, all because BMW's own software doesn't work as intended.

Okay, so next drama update.

I managed to sort out my HDD issues and formatted to exFAT to receive this file. I downloaded it using the bmw downloader and it, again, left just one file.

I cant understand what the problem is or how to overcome it :/

Okay! I had a think about it and opened the one file with Winrar... It seems like all the files are contained within as described, so I'm now copying to the USB. I should be good to go!
