Still on Run Flats or anyone shifting to regular tires?

Just curious if you're all still going with the fairly limited array of Run Flat tires for this car or has anyone jumped ship to the broader selection of regular rubber? And, if so, how are you doing that; fifth full size rim taking up most of the trunk space or you're never far from home and the wife's nice enough to keep it in her SUV for when there's a problem? If Run flats still, what's the consensus on the best tire among those in Summer performance as opposed to winter tires for y'all northern folk?

I swapped to PS4S from runflat Goodyear eagle F1 asymmetric 3. The Goodyear's were pretty good for run flats, but the ride improvement alone, would allow me to recommend the switch. Nothing beats the PS4S for road use performance as well.
Regarding a spare, I opted to get a puncture repair kit / gel to save space.

GusL Did you get the same size tires or did you go up a little bit for the sidewall?

Same sizes -
Front: 225/40/R19
Rear: 255/35/R19
No problems at all. If you change the sizes sightly you would need to be careful about the circumference changes between front and rear for X-drive models.

Same size tires on my 793i wheels as wheel. I'd like a little extra sidewall for added ride quality. I'll be sure to check that it won't be an issue as I don't have xDrive.

In that case assuming there are no issues with them fouling anything (due to the increased diameter ~+1") then your biggest concern would be the change in circumference (~3.9%) this will not only impact you indicated speed, milage counter etc. But also the revs / gearing of the engine as lower revs will result in higher speeds.

Above is based on assumed sizes: Front 225/45/r19 Rear: 255/40/r19

Best option for increased comfort would be to drop down a rim size and keep the circumference as close to standard as possible.

But bear in mind that non run flats will be significantly more forgiving without changing sizes / sidewalls etc.

Plug kit and portable air compressor. Even with the same sidewall, non run flats will ride much better.

I had one of my run flats lose all air pressure due to a nail, but thanks to the run flat tech, I was still able to drive it.

I know non RF ride better, but I'm convinced that run flats are worth it if you don't have a spare tire.

Don't even have the car yet but have a set of rims and tires with non run flats on the way. Went through so many bent rims with run flats on my F30's not worth the hassle. Keep the Mobility Kit in the trunk and call it a day.

Currently on the summer pirelli P-zero rf stock. Only had the car for a week so once the tires start balding, I'll swap to ps4s. They don't feel that bad honestly but I've never driven on ps4s either so hard to compare.

Difficult question as thankfully most people who buy them never have to use them. But I went for:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Comes with the tyre sealant (stated as being TPMS safe) and a compressor. All fits neatly into the side of the G20 boot/trunk.

I use the BMW Mobility Kit. Knock on wood I've never had to use it. One came with the M4 and I ended up buying another one.

I switched to michelin PS A/S3+ and got myself a mobility kit. I get MUCH better traction from these tires than from the stock runflats, and overall road noise/comfort is slightly better.

If this is just a daily, I would not worry about replacing them.
my wife hit a really big pothole and blew out the sidewalls of rear and front right tires and was still able to drive home with reduced speed.

I hope you guys have tire insurance, otherwise that's a big expense. Reason I will never get runflats again.

I had couple blowouts (2 complete destructions and 1 sidebubble crack) with runflats on my F30, so having convenience of keep going about your business with little interruptions is important for me, as these tires are not cheep, I got rim and tire insurance this time around.
Definitely keeping run flats, even at expense of ride quality.

Aren't runflats more susceptible to blowouts?

Sure you can get home on a blown out tire with runflats.... but perhaps the tire wouldn't have blown out in the first place if it wasn't a runflat.

You're also far more likely to bend/break your rims due to the stiffness of the sidewall.
Tyre garage I took mine to said they get infinitely more Mercedes/BMW using runflats with rim damage than standard tyres.

Yes 100% accurate. I had 3 blowouts due to the tire being a run flat. (Over 2 years) When you hit a nasty pot hole or whatever the force is directed into the rim due to the plastic band inside the run flat. That force then bends the rim and/or bubbles the run flat. Since changing to regular tires I have not had an issues with bent rims (6 years and counting)

I have since had nails/screws in a regular tire and in all situations the leak was so slow that I was either able to get off the road and get the car towed and/or add a little air and get to safely to the dealer for a hot patch.
