I've been trying to find anyway to get my car updated (built may 2021). My maps will not update as well as idrive. I had already contacted two dealers with questions about updating idrive but they were no help. I resorted to emailing connecteddrive customer support. Here is their response:

Software Update:

The software version we see on file is 21-03-538, and therefore matches the software version you see in your vehicle.



MapUpdate Version/Date:

The latest regional map version 2021-2 is available in the vehicle. However, there is an issue which is preventing the version screen date in vehicle from updating. BMW is aware and working on the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.


My question is… does anybody know why my vehicle just doesn't have any updates available but everybody else is getting their OTA updates? Also this is the reason dealers are telling me they cannot plug me in and update the software.

21/03 version is the latest one for OTA, 21/07 is for dealer. So nothing wrong in your car.
Unless you have specific issue otherwise they won't do manually update for you.
You must find a reason to request.

For map, you can download from pc and update manually, 21/02 seems the most update one already.

My maps version is 2020 something. It's never updated just like my OTA. That is why they were saying there is some issue with it updating

My 2021 was delivered in May with 2020 version maps. When I had it serviced this week I asked about map updates and was told it will be updated if needed. No change after the service.

I mentioned to the SA that for my F30 I paid for a subscription and got map updates 2-3 times a year, but he could not explain why my maps are so out of date.

Yes so as they stated in my email there is something preventing OTA map updates and they are "working on it". It's a shame that something as simple as navigation updates haven't been addressed after a couple of years of production.

If I remember correctly map won't OTA.
Please try to download from pc and put it to USB and update manually.

I don't think a manual download is an option in the USA market.

This is definitely an OTA update

Not that I am aware of for a g20. I'm not even sure if the dealers are capable of manual updates although I haven't asked
