Petrol in the S.E.

Am getting low in petrol and am wondering where the best place in S E London/N Kent to go and lie in wait at dawn for a petrol bowser.

Anybody any idea which brand of petrol is best fior regular deliveries?
We have locally Shell, BP and Esso.

The pressure is getting worse as at the end of the month am going down to Cornwall for the family holiday, the first in two years.

But currently just need petrol for general getting about.

Any ideas on the best petrol station to hang out? How are the motorway service stations for petrol?

You are probably best off check Facebook groups for your local area. It's how I've managed to find some petrol.

I don't see any patterns in who is more or less likely to have deliveries. Also, competition law has been suspended for the purpose of any brand delivering to any petrol station, though no idea if that is actually happening.

Odd how regional it is - I've just been to my local Asda in the midlands and there wasn't a soul to be seen, straight in and out as usual. Mind you, if you're using bowsers instead of tankers to deliver fuel that might explain it...

Find your local Sainsbury's if you have one, I managed to phone ours up and they let me know they had fuel in stock so I drove down!

You're probably always better off with a large Tesco/Sainsbury's from what I've noticed where I live around Southampton, good luck!

Like Incarniac said, I think Facebook groups seem to be the most reliable indicator. That's certainly the case round here. Seems to be pot luck as to which type or brand of filling station gets fuel. Near me a good 90% still have no fuel. Makes me glad of my 30-odd miles electric range.

I seem to be OK for petrol. Got the daughter's 1.0l Polo on stand by if needs be. Also taken fuel tanks off of a boat. But DERV is an issue. Travel around with a jerry can and managed to fill that up for my truck this morning, in Alton.

Supermarkets tend to be better with their deliveries than the actual branded stations it seems...

There seems to be a shortage of 98RON, but the 40i seems to run pretty ok on 95.

Yeah, it runs fine. I prefer 97-99 RON but hard to find right now. Laser couple of times I've only found 95, but beggars can't be choosers, right? 😁

Re my original post, this morning at about about 10.00am I made a detour to my local Esso garage and the queue was only about 300m long so I tagged on the end and after about half an hour of so there was two pumps working out of 8, giving two petrol 95 and two basic diesel out of 16petrol and 16diesel.
There was a very efficient Esso lady at the pumps with an intercom liasoning with the tills supervising and advising people to use their card at the pumps and not to go inside to pay, I had to with Apple Pay.
Shell V-Power is always my preference but beggars cannot be choosers!
So pleased! Best of luck guys!

The rush for petrol in SE London/N Kent seems to have eased off and it is now generally available which is a relief. I surpose people are now driving about with 3/4 full tanks whereas before it was 1/4 full!
However, situation could change and I now drive generally on EcoPro Individual meaning EcoPro but aircon on 85% rather than 65%. Must have reasonable aircon! Getting quite used to it and any change to Adaptive and the car seems so fast!! Getting away from the lights is the worst part!
But it is really nice to have car with all these various options!
I have been considering for my next car a Teslar 3 but getting just near to the bells and whistles I have with the 330i the price is at least 10 grand more plus all the messing about with cables and charging points plus double cost of insurance plus very expensive spare parts. It's put me off!
Hell, I could get an M340i easily for less money!

Hmmm. I found myself popping out today in the car, in SportPlus and in sport & manual. Might as well have some fun while I'm still alive.

The 330i is a formidable all-rounder and utterly dependable--especially in the thick of recent supply-chain crises like ours. Looking ahead, though, I wouldn't join team Tesla just yet. We have a full 8 years before we're all compelled to drive around in things that will have about as much heart and soul under the bonnet as a Beko fridge. Keep your eyes on the prospect of that gorgeous-sounding 40i while you still can..!

I’ve got petrol a couple of times in the last couple of weeks without any queuing at Clacket Lane on the M25 and also at the Shell station on the A299 near Whitstable.

Up here in Hoop Hoo land, I’ve not seen a single queue and, I’m in the densely populated central belt! I do feel for the normal people of the southeast having to deal with total retards, like the lady who joined a queue because, erm, there was a queue and she didn’t even need petrol

There were plenty of stations tho who upped their prices in the hope of a panic tho , but still petrol remains @£1.36/8 and diesel @ £1.44/6 per litre.

I remember going to the Le Mans 24hr race in 2007 or 8 and petrol was @£1.49 per litre, and I was driving a rather thirsty RX8 who thought it was a V8

I run my 840i on 95 - it's spot on. That's all BMW recommend anyway.

Since petrol was in short supply have been driving Eco Pro on urban & surburban roads and as suggested by a post elsewhere on this forum Eco Pro is for the Motorways.
Otherwise, Eco Pro is a drag, giving the impression of ball and chain attached to the car plus the fact of the drop in the efficiency of the aircon. 80% at best might not seem very much, but in my car it is.
I'll shortly be taking a long run on a Motorway shortly and will try out Eco Pro again in association with the Cruise Control and Stop & Go.
My past experience using Eco Pro on the Motorway was good.

Am I right in thinking that Eco Pro limits the car (40i) to about 50 bhp, and if you push the gear lever over to sport, then that ups it to about 100 bhp? Got a 500 mile trip on Friday, so suspect I'll do Eco Pro for a fair bit of it.

Can't tell if that's serious or not?! anyway it just really dulls the throttle inputs and keeps the gear changes to be as eco as possible. You can still accelerate quickly but you need to manually change down etc

If on a long boring motorway I use it and if need to accelerate briskly use the paddles. I leave the aircon as full on and use eco individual.

Yes it's serious.

The performance monitor shows BHP and torque, and with Eco on, it seems to stick to 50bhp/100bhp. It's really dulled because its not using much BHP.

Well that's at least what I recall, but given I've got a 500 miler tomorrow (which involves M40, M42, M6, M74, M73, M80 and M9) I'll have another look.

Just tried Eco mode in my 320d and got full power! Bow down before the mighty 200bhp, M340i's in Eco mode...
