Uniden Hardwire

Hi guys,

Just hardwired my uniden r3 using the rear view mirror. My question is that is the detector supposed to automatically turn on whenever I unlock the car(electronics come on)? I noticed that when I had it plugged into the cigarette lighter that it would turn on by itself. Now that it's hardwired, I have to press the power button for it to turn on. Is this normal?

Observe if the RD is shutting itself off after a period of inactivity, as opposed to getting switched power from the car (which is preferred).

Originally tapped into the wires with the red connector as that seemed to work when I had my f30. Then tried the wires on the bottom and now it's working how it should! Comes on automatically and turns off after a few minutes of turning off the car. Thanks for your reply!

Which wires on the bottom did you tap off of?
