Dealer markup on M340i
My dealer wanted to charge me $3k over MSRP but I get him down to $1500. He said they’re going for 3-6k over sticker in some cases in the current environment. Should I keep talking and go through w the order or walk?

When I ordered my M340i in March (from Fairfax BMW, Fairfax, VA) they were discounting them 8% off sticker price. Alexandria BMW offered a slight lower discount and was not as positive about when they had an allocation, so I ordered from Fairfax. Nobody was adding to MSRP unless it was an unusual model that was really hard to get.
In addition to the 8% off I also got a BMW incentive ($3k?) and .9% financing for 60 months. I found it better to sell my old BMW through KBB or Vroom than it was to trade it in. You can shop for different KBB and Vroom offers over time if your trade-in date is flexible, but each offer is usually good for only 7 days. I ended up using KBB and selling it to a local Ford dealer. Last edited by Bc2005; 10-09-2021 at 06:59 AM.. |

That dealer is trying to fleece you. It's not unusual to pay MSRP right now and try to get some incentive discounts, but not above MSRP. That dealer is trying to rob you.

Are there other BMW dealers in your area? This one you're dealing with seems pretty slimey. |

He made it seem like he is the only one in the area with an allocation with options that havent been removed, in my spec, to be delivered in the next 3 months. ETA: the same salesman sold my wifes uncle an Alpina XB7 and her cousin a 74o so I thought there was some goodwill there... Last edited by P_Leotardo; 10-09-2021 at 10:05 AM.. |

Get a broker. There are a some still getting discounts on the Leasehackr forums. Well worth the broker fee to not have to deal with car salesmen.

Local dealer here in FL currently has cars marked up $2500 to $7000 over MSRP. Not sure if people are paying that but thats what they're now asking. Didn't pay that when I ordered mine.

I got a discount on my M340i in SoCal in this crazy market and the mark-up game here is usually far more crazy than the East Coast. I would definitely shop around and check TrueCar....they seem to be pretty reasonable on what to expect in your local market.

Would suggest looking out of state. I'm right next door to NJ in PA. I shopped over there and no one was willing to deal. There is literally zero inventory after the IDA flooding. Ended up getting a 22 M340xi for a decent bit under MSRP shipped from Bill Jacobs BMW outside of Chicago. Another option would be BMW of Reading in PA. Shoot me a PM if you want to know any of the contacts of folks I worked with at those dealers.

I had an excellent experience. Took roughly 2 weeks total from engagement to car in driveway. When I called them I didn't honestly expect much. I told the SA which car I wanted and what I wanted to pay. He said he would check and call me back. 20 mins later he called back and confirmed they could do the deal. Paperwork was pretty typical. They sent a notary to our house to do the final paperwork. Also, had to arrange the trailer myself but they recommended the company they normally use. Absolutely, would go this route again. In a perfect world I would have got locally but this really worked out well.

My wife bought her X1 at Bill Jacobs. I would 100% recommend them. One of the easiest car buying experiences I have had. I would have gotten my car from them too had I not been set on Sunset Orange, which they didn’t have any of.
