Yes the reveal is sometime in September. People just have to wait a little longer to see how ugly these cars will be.

I'm still waiting to see if I can get an M2 CS allocation.

Agreed 1000% with 10". It just doesn't look like a BMW and plus it is too big.

Sedan Clan: Are you on your dealer's waiting list for an M4? I'm not totally against these cars as I do think the G80 M3 can be a good grocery hauler and that the upcoming M4 CSL is intriguing.

Gotta agree. Those grilles are even bigger/wider, but look definitely better. And that's what many here are saying (including myself), the problem isn't just the bigger size itself, it's more the (too narrow) shape. It could otherwise actually look really good.

No, but one of my best friends is the sales manager at my dealer. I've purchased every BMW I've owned since 2000 from him (...or through him; he wrote the deal and handed it to one of his salesmen to give them the credit). I'll be able to get one.

What's the big mystery? We already know exactly what this will look like inside and out. We know about the drivetrain, it's in the X3/4M. So why do they persist in this silly charade? There is almost nothing bespoke about these models anymore, it's all common platform engineering. I'm quickly growing bored of this.

The M is not and will never be built the way they were before. First few generations, the M car was for Motorsport homologation purpose, literally race car being built backwards to road car form, and thus legitimately stand for "Motorsport". Every generation, the M lost the Motorsport-ness a bit. From the F8X on, the M is purely one version of sportiness treatment given to a luxury compact family sedan, and has the best in class marketing drive it.

BMW is pretty good, in fact better than anyone else, in doing this. Maybe they're just too good and that's exactly why today there is no standalone M sports car - when there is only so much resource and budget, they have to go to the most profitable business - M treatment to a family sedan/coupe.

Personally I wouldn't complain about the dimension of the car. I have this mindset - if I ever purchase one G80/82, it will be the replacement for my 540i as the daily commuter and the grocery getter. How great that would be! In the end, satisfaction is all about expectation management.
Just a bit of BMW M history to clear up some misconceptions re first generations of M cars being street legal race cars for homologation purposes...

List of previous BMW M models, in successive order:

-M1
-E12 M535i
-E24 M635i
-E28 M535i
-E28 M5
-E30 M3
-E34 M5
-E36 M3
-E36/7/8 Z3 M Roadster/Coupe
-E39 M5
-E46 M3
-E6x M5
-E6x M6
-E8x Z4 M
-E9x M3
-E82 1M
-E7x X5M/X6M
-F10 M5
-F06/12/13 M6
-F8x X5M/X6M
-F80 M3

In that list there are two models that fits your description of the first few models; the M1 and the E30 M3.

Between the M1 and E30 M3 there was three "M Performance" models before the E28 M5 and then the E30 M3...

So no, the first few generations wasn't mostly homologation specials. The first few models actually had a predominance of versions that would compare to todays "M Performance" lineup.

The E28 M535i was a regular E28 with the M30 engine and M Bumper's, Flares etc.
Definitely not counting as a M Car! Still too bad I sold mine.

And no, back in the days there was no M Performance.

I'm really glad I just bought a 2020 M2C if this is the design direction they're taking with the upcoming refresh.

Not gonna lie, I'm starting to warm up to that grill...there is a subtle aggression to it. Or maybe I'm just in the acceptance phase lol.

Hence why I put M-Performance in quotes and wrote that those models compared to todays M-Performance models...

My oldest son (22) has owned 4 E28's including a 1982 520i that was his daily driver from 18 to 20 and which we drove with from Norway to Nurburgring one summer (1200 miles each way) and a track day 535 with a turbo'd M30B35.
(He know has a E38 with a S54B32 in it )

Can I point out that my 850CSi has an S70 engine and a WBS chassis code, thus should be in that list?

No pictures to add but I just spotted a m3 test mule when I was driving up to big bear yesterday. It was pulled over on a turn out while we were waiting at a makeshift stoplight. Unfortunately a dead phone prohibited pics. From 15 feet away I will say it looks so much better in person than the pics do it. It was still in full camo and not stripped camo but you can get a sense of the proportions.

The grill is big but I've seen the comparison before to the Alfa and it's a very good comparison. It dare I say actually looks pretty good in person.

If anyone is in big bear they might still be up there. It was driving with a camo'd Rolls and Supra. Not sure why they were testing together.
