Other Comparable Brands VS 330i xDrive?
Hello,
I am looking to either replace my 2021 330i xDrive for same but new model or a completely different comparable sedan. Thoughts? |

I have been asking myself the same question. The only new model in the segment since 2021 is the new C-class. The A4, Giulia, CT4/5, S60, IS, TLX, G70, and Q50 have not changed. Some seem to be languishing until the inevitable end of the ICE sport sedan. The C43 is tempting just to have something different after a bunch of BMWs, but the fuel economy is awful. The C300 felt too floaty.
Mostly I am down to the i4 xDrive40, M340i (thinking the inline six could forgive some sins of the LCI de-contenting), and the refreshed Polestar 2 RWD.

This dilemma haunts me every time it's time for a new car. And I always come back. BMW knows how to make a drivetrain work. Look at every car with comparable power to the 330 or 340 and you'll see they are significantly slower and usually worse MPG. The boys and girls know their stuff when it comes to making an engine and trans sing together and it's just silly how much better they are at times.

Owned both, and the S4 is short on chassis dynamics, and handling (and engine performance) vs the M340i - the A4 is actually quicker than the 330i. The A4/S4 are more comfortable in my opinion, and has a better stereo. Tech is on the older side now though (aside from the virtual cockpit). As a package, I'd go G20 any day.

Its an interesting comparison, the A4 is an older platform at this point. I can only really compare to the S6. The S6 B&O system absolutely blows away the HK in the m340i, best audio system I've ever heard in a car. Seats are much better, way more luxurious interior, plus it has some really nice advanced stuff (air suspension, rear wheel steer etc.). Its actually nicer to drive than the m340i in a lot of ways, particularly holding the steering wheel. The current M steering wheel is stupidly thick, I find it really irritating over any real distance. S6 MSRP is pushing towards $90k though which is significantly more than an m340i. Dynamically they didn't feel that different just cruising around, in fact I almost prefer the Audis lighter steering and more linear brake feel. If the overall feeling of the S4 is similar I think it would be a very good option, was honestly surprised how much I enjoy the Audi vibe.

The M340i should hold its value better than the Audi. Let’s see the new refresh and see how that compares |

In under 30k miles, it was on its 3rd water pump and I replaced the electronic parking brake module. Traded it in for a new 23 M340i. I’m done with Volkswagen group. Don’t regret it thus far.
