You are spot on. As a matter of fact, the system for numbering is quite straightforward. Two digits represent the month, then four for the year with two after the dot representing minor fixes to the major tri-annual major updates

I was happily on 07/2019. I finally got the notice that 11/2019 was ready to install and somehow I lost my mind, didn't follow my own advice and installed it. Then I recalled reading how you lose all of your coding (easy to fix) and lose your tune (should be easy to fix). Well you don't 'lose your tune', BMW put another layer of 'protection' in the DME and my car bricked when I went to reinstall my BM3 Stage 1 tune. The guys at PTF fixed it (back to stock only), it took 30 minutes, but now the DME has to be bench unlocked (for free). I'm sending it to them next week.

So, I'm stupid, I didn't listen to my own advice. If you have a tune DO NOT 'upgrade' software. PTF tells me that each new 'upgrade' may require a bench unlock each time, until they figure out how to hack around each new BMW encryption. Honestly, like a I said before, there is NOTHING so important to merit urgently performing these updates. Also would add the customer service from PTF is A++++.

My 2019 330e got stuck when updating OTA. The car went to my dealer yesterday and got updated with the latest version 07.2020.48 (11.2019.70 before)
Does anyone know where I can find the release notes what has been changed with the update?

I booked the car in and reported few issues.

One real one :

-BMW Connected app not updating. iDrive hard reset helps for couple of days or so

Other two suggested in different thread on this forum :

-internal movement detector and the tilt alarm sensor system cannot be deactivated by pressing the lock button on the key twice

- when revers gear is selected, sporadically no image is displayed

As a result, the car was updated from 07/2019.30 to 07/2020.48

I was expecting them to mention the fact, that I was messing with the software by coding via BimmerCode. They absolutely ignored that. I don't know if they can see it in the system or not. No one said anything about it.

So is the consensus that I need to go to the dealer to have my software updated? I am on the 3/2020 version and really looking forward to having both android auto and apple play but I am not showing an OTA available

Right now: yes.
You can also wait until BMW decides to release 07/2020 update OTA. Even then you may need to wait a bit longer as not all cars get assigned for update at the same time. It'll probably take months to update all card around the world.

What version did you upgrade from? Steering wheel heating rules were added in 03/2020.

What version did you upgrade from? Steering wheel heating rules were added in 03/2020.

My dealer wouldn't update my ID to 07/2020. They were adamant I had the latest version, 11/20219.70. I can almost guarantee they didn't even bother checking.

Similar went in for maintenance and update, got 3/2020 not 7/2020. Bummer

I received my first and only update a few months ago; Went from 11/2019.34 to 11/2019.70

They were adamantly wrong. I'm on 03/2020.58. And yes a 07/2020.xx version is out also.

Just took it in for service today. I have 03/2020 and was told 07/2020 update is available (to get android auto) but not free. Wait for OTA to get it for free. I said okay, don't care either way.

How much were they charging to flash an update?

I mentioned to the SA that the I-drive glitched a couple of times while driving when the car was in for a recall and they updated it to 07/20 for free..... Just saying

Last week, my car started to reset my settings on ambient light color, mirrors and such. I went to BMW service here in Munich and they installed the new software 07.2020.48.

After the upgrade, my problem was solved however this time I lost some of apps like Spotify etc. I tried reset Idrive and set the car back to factory settings, then I lost every single app. After one day, 4 of them appeared back. I can see Android Auto and connected drive app but no weather app, Spotify... any one had similar issues after the upgrade?

Spotify, from what I heard from my BMW genius, will disappear to be replaced my something called BMW connected music or something similar. Spotify only be available throughout Android auto or Applecar

Spotify is not the problem, I lost almost alls app and some of the menus in the car. From yesterday to today, only 4 of them appeared again out of roughly 10 apps.
