The first pics of the mules on the car carrier where we could make out the enormous grilles underneath the camo seem like decades ago.

LCI probably going to be around mid to late 2022, as a MY2023 if we compare to timeline from previous generations

For the M3,
LCI #1 will be timed with the 3 series and covering the tail lights (which is shares with the 3), 7/22 production, 2023 USA model year
LCI #2 will be timed with the 4 series and cover the headlights (which is shared with the 4), i assume 7/24 production, 2025 is model year

For the m4 just a single LCI timed with the 4 series covering both ends

M car reveals, and almost all new car reveals, have become quite predictable. Used to be that everything was up for grabs . . . Completely new engines every year, much more differentiation in interiors, each product was more unique . . . Now, with modular platforms and engine architectures and corporate interiors, there's no more surprise. We've known exactly what this car would be for a year and a half. The engine is already available in the X3M.

It doesn't help there are 19 variants of the allegedly top of the line model. It's just not exciting or special anymore. It's like a PlayStation ... slim ... pro ... even more pro. It's obnoxious and dilutes the product

On the contrary, they strategically "leaked" in an effort to keep interest up and also allow time for naysayers and haters to warm up. Most of us are pretty much at the acceptance phase by this point. We already know what it will look like. Most of us just want to know what the official performance figures are going to be.

LOL, this is way easier to do than you think b/c we don't have to do anything. Its the other way around, BMW needs to make something really compelling to get us to spend our money, especially 90k on a car in a middle of a pandemic and global recession. I'm pretty sure you will get a good deal with seemingly a ton of us hating the way it looks and just waiting for things to get back to normal.

If we compare timelines from the last two gens the G80 will get updated before the G82.

Let's hope they listen to their customers this time and change the front grill a little for the LCI

But I'll tell you - I've been waiting to change my E90 for some time now. I was hoping and praying the G80 would be the one.

I put my money where my mouth is and did not buy an F80. It just wasn't for me styling wise nor dynamically.

With regards to the G80, with the crazy hype, the unorthodox design changes (actually the lexus like backend has me questioning things vs. the front end) and unknown driving characteristics (have they changed fundamentals like steering feel and exhaust note?), I'm really "blah" about all of this....

The more I think about it a second hand 911 seems to meet my needs more and more despite its passenger occupancy flaws....
Funnily enough I've been thinking along a similar line, I've had my E92 for a long time now, far longer than any other car I've owned and that was partly because I was waiting for news of the G80, with it being the latest and greatest and as F80/2 production was coming to an end (I do like these cars is the difference) . Its evolved and turned out not to be what I was after, annoying as I was looking forward to some of the new tech and engines, but no real bother - doesn't take a genius to know why, but F82 is still a compelling option so I could either upgrade to a late F82 or I could quite happily carry on with the E92 to be honest and enjoy elements of the car that some may still class as being better such as steering feel, etc.
