Guess I'll skip this generation and enjoy my f80 and e46 m3.

The rounder angles on the rear quarter panels just don't look right to me. Where are the straight lines we had in pretty much every bmw?? Fugly at best

Love it! Especially with no front plate required where I Live. Just wish BMW would get rid of Cerium Grey as a trim on all of their cars!

Hey guys, I need a some help in determining the best option for lowering 2017 440i gran coupe m-package. Currently 225/45/18 (approximately 3" between wheel arch and tire).

That car remained forgotten about until Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President of BMW Group Design, uncovered a photograph of the lost concept car. This triggered his determination to find out more, ultimately leading to the mission to recreate the distinctive Garmisch again.

For van Hooydonk, building a new version gave BMW the chance to "pay tribute to Mr. Gandini" and also be able to "highlight Bertone's stylistic influence on the evolution of BMW design. For me, that alone was reason enough to do this project – filling in the gaps and completing BMW's history."

And part of that original design as well the Garmisch Concept made it to the Concept 4 Series and now to the production car, the grille. The iconic BMW grille has long been open to interpretation by its corporate designers.
I don't see any similarity between the Garmisch Concept and the 4-series!?

The Garmisch doesn't look Azian styled at all, nothing from Lexus or Infinity. The 4-series is designed entirely and only to please the Azian market!

The only analogy is that both cars have a total misfitted grill design. Which doesn't mean they cary the same grill, not al tall, there are billion ways to mess up a design. Here you just see two variants for doing it wrong.

Yeaaaaah, no. You can't improve on this.
The second coming of Aftermarket Grille is this car's only salvation.

This is one of the clearest observations that I'm upset BMW strayed from. The tailored ripple that stretches from the front to the rear of the vehicle, zipping right through the door handles.

I feel that is a HUGE discerning visual factor that separates BMW from other brands, and gives it a more AGGRESSIVE look compared to competitors. And it really doesn't help that the bodies we know are gradually getting bigger. The "G's" (aside from X5-X6) aren't looking very BeeyemDubbleYewey..

A bit weird design choice for a car subscribing to ambitions in luxury and performance.
Getting vibes from the 2020 Peugeot 508 1.6L playing in the $27~32k price range.
Is the designer of the G22 coupe French?

No, surprisingly Dukec is German, however he comes from Citroen.

Heck it looks a lot nicer in this up close video in classic Alpine White with blacked-out trim, at least the rims are Satin Black.

What are you talking about? The post was about an element of the original design that was applied in a modern interpretation of which was the grille.

The post didn't say anything about the Asian market as it was about BMWs inspiration and how that one single element is the one people dislike about the new 4 Series.

The grille of the 4 doens't look one single bit like the one on the Garmisch. Not in geometry, not in size.

Of course it's not the same size since that car was from the 1970's. Cars were much smaller then and a grille that size would essentially be minuscule on the car. And geometry of the grille doesn't have to be identical nor is it identical because that would lazy and simply stealing. It's a modern interpretation of the original.

No it isn't, it's just two times bad grill design. 4 is not inspired by Garmisch at all.

I didn't say the 4 Series was inspired by Garmish whatsoever. My post was exclusively about the grille and a modern interpretation that was incorporated into the new 4.
