New wheels?

So expecting delivery of a portimao blue M340i with the 792M 19 inch wheels but looking to replace the wheels of with 20s. Which of these designs do you think would work well with portimao blue? I’ll also be getting the m performance carbon kit on it:

All really subjective, but I'd say stay away from that bullion gold (too bright) and black (too many folks already have black, plus the wheel design gets swallowed up by the color). Bronze on blue is gorgeous, as is brushed titanium and graphite.

Yes they do. But not sure whether to get one of these sets or just keep my 19inch 792M’s and just add spacers and lower the vehicle.

Agreed! Not that this is a BMW, but I had bronze Method wheels on my Blue Flame Raptor and thought it looked fantastic:

That said, at the end of the day, it's YOUR car, OP. Pick what you like best.

If you are going to lower the vehicle either way (meaning oem wheels or aftermarket) you could always lower it with spacers on oem first (13/15mm will make those 792's sit very close to flush) and go from there.

Hi Chenry. Yes thats exactly what I was thinking too. My thoughts are inline with yours. I was thinking of getting some AC Schnitzer lowering springs and adding Eibach spacers to the M792s and if that looks good enough then I may just stick with them as I heard the ride is more comfortable on 19s?

As it is going to be a brand new car, I want to retain the warranty as long as possible. I know now that I am safe with the AC lowering springs but what about Eibach spacers? Would adding the spacers incur any warranty issues at all?

Also, which size spacer would you add?? 10mm on the front and 13mm on the back maybe?? Or 12mm front and 15mm rear? Would I need lugs?

If I was to change the wheels, then I am looking at either of these two options:

https://www.tsw.com/alloy_wheels_pescara.php

https://www.borbet.de/en/by-titan-polished-matt

Swaying towards the borbet but the bronze TSWs look like they would really pop with Portimao Blue! What do you guys reckon?/

  • I've never had an issue nor have I heard of one

  • That's really personal preference - personally I ran 15MM on the front and 13MM on the rear and that got things rather close to "flush" without any poke. If you search for spacer threads on this forum you will find a couple examples of different spacer setups :-)

  • Yes yes and yes
  • You really need new bolts for anything more than 3mm
  • Also ensure that the spacers you buy have a hubcentric ring on them (see the picture below that I highlighted the ring in red - if the spacers (that are more than 5mm) don't have this....RUN
  • Some popular brands are Macht Schnell, Apex Racing, and BMS Burger Motorsports. I personally really like the BMS products, they come pre-paired with extended bolts and you also get a hanger pin when you buy two sets (I'll put the link below)

Anyhoo hope this helps....

Brilliant. Thank you. I will consider these option but now swaying towards bigger wheels 😬

So guys...I’m down to my final choice with the Borbet Y wheels. They are not forged and just cast wheels but I would save around £650 against the fully forged OEM 795s and the hassle of not having to fit spacers as the Borbet Y come with wider rears.

Now my only concern is whether I should lower my car or not. I’ve seen the following pics of the same 20” wheels and it doesn’t seem as if the car needs lowering as the gap in the arches are not too big after adding the 20s. Opinions? :

Honestly, if cosmetics are your goal, I'd say the stance looks perfectly fine, no need to lower it.

Yes cosmetic looks are my goal as I doubt I will be tracking the car. I too was thinking that with 20s on, it looks fine without having to lower it.
