Now if it's a finance or lease, you cannot do any "major tuning" ... found a chap on YouTube that got into some trouble with BMW for engine mods (600+ HP M4) on a financed vehicle. :

Debadging is considered "major tuning"??? I debadged my 430's xDrive and 430i badge and I'm leasing it... The plan is just to put them back on before returning the lease.

I totally don't get how what you are saying is relevant...
It's not your car to deface. If you want to rip the badges off, buy the car. You might do a fine job of placing them back on before turning the car in, but bmw probably doesn't take it for granted you'll do it right, or without risking expensive cosmetic damage to the car.

Yep. If someone wants to judge me based on the badge affixed to the back of my car, let them. I don't care what goes on in their immature mind. If they confronted me, I'd probably just play along with it and let them have a laugh, like how I'd react to a child laughing at me.

I am thinking of doing the same! How will you remove it? I am worried that I might damage the paint.

That said I simply don't like the look of the M before the 340 and if all 340's are M340's I don't feel the added M decoration serves any purpose of differentiating the car from the other G20 340's on the road so I'm going to ditch it. Just want to be left with a clean 340 emblem like I have now.

XDrive is going away as well, but that's probably more of an obvious choice.

Anyhoo I know there is not a right or wrong answer here (hold on I don't think I was seeking out an answer haha) and this is a million percent subjective so just sharing my intentions, that's all.
Why did you feel it necessary to share this information?

While there are many ways of doing it....a good time-tested approach is to apply heat (hair dryer as an example) and then slide fishing line behind the badge. Any excessive adhesive left behind can typically be balled up with your finger as long as its still warm. The remaining residue can be removed using a micro-fiber towel and a paint friendly adhesive remover. Easy breezy.

I think you take them all off or leave it be but whatever.

However if you take off the M and leave 340i then I think you are essentially saying I bought an inferior car that doesn't deserve the badge the manufacturer deemed appropriate - I'm ashamed of this M and I know the car and I aren't worthy.

I feel the same way. the m sport / performance body kits I hate. would love to just get all the performance stuff without it. I'm not trying to look extra aggressive like some kid who put a body kit on his civic

I've removed badges with floss before. you don't even have to heat them up, the OEM ones on some makes use the same 3m tape you can just buy and they aren't that hard to remove. you'll have to use something to remove the sticky residue though and maybe a Polish after.

Thanks for the advice. I removed the badge at the trunk today without any issue.

Some people need constant attention and group approval.

If Debadging, regardless of the reason, it should be done as soon as possible with new cars to avoid paint around the badges fading at different levels.
