I think it has more to do with the fact whether or not those vents are truly beneficial enough to highlight it as a feature. Remember, BMW did the same thing with the pre-LCI F32/F33/F36, they highlighted the vent only to remove it on the LCI. I don't think anyone truly cares whether it's there or not, just don't market it as something beneficial and then remove it. Clearly it wasn't really needed on the F3X and it was more for aesthetics with the "Bimmerang".

oh man, they continue to butcher the 4 series
i had the f36 GC, it was a beautiful 4 door coupe. This G26 is more of a GT than a GC. Theyve lost what was previously a sleek low down 4 door. I am not sure why anyone would choose this over a G20 3-series now.. |

I have to agree, aside from the heinous front end (compared to the new 3) the appeal of the F36 was a sleek, low four door coupe. The G26 looks awkward, bulky, gone are the elegant lines and Very similar to the old 3 series GT (that was a minger too). Why anyone would pay more for an objectively uglier and less sporty looking four door saloon is beyond me, the 4 series GC was thought to be niche when it first came out but sold very very well, I think this one will be another hard product to shift, their is just no justification for its existence in this form.

For me, the functionality wins over by far. I can put my bike inside one day or a full load from a Costco trip, or all our luggage on the way to the airport on another. I may have years ago...but one grows out of that kind of externally-derived esteem.

I owned two F36's and had intended on getting the new GC in a couple of years.
Are we certain that the G is not as low/wide/sleek as the F? Is this subjective judgement based on spy photos or are there published specs showing that BMW raised and narrowed the GC? |

If you want a GT you can have a GT. BMW makes so many body styles in the SAV/SUV/utility segment there is a ton to choose from. The GT is not a 4 door coupe which is what is exciting about the GC. I hope to hell they don't ruin it by making it an obese turtle like the GT. |

Only for the 4 Series were they willing to accept the increased investment, variable piece cost, and weight - all negative factors for any OEM - to include a hatch versus a conventional trunk. This is because they understand that a significant number of buyers in the midsize market also seek utility/functionality. Not as necessary or affordable on the 2 Series GC below or as desirable/needed on the 8 Series above. The 4 Series is not just all about someone trying to be "sexy".
